Hello all,

Wondering what your thoughts are on these two chapters about plateaus - someone posted these in a forum here not long ago. I can see some logic, but at the same time I have some problems with it. Just wanted other opinions. I cannot find anything else written about this anywhere.

All i know is generally when people get stuck there are a few reasons why. Calories are not CLean! ToO many calories in! Workout intensity is not high enough! Not getting enough calories

OMG...can we say repetitive? I just got through the 1st chapter and I felt like I was reading the same thing over and over again....Nothing like drilling it into your head huh? LOL

What I took away from it was that a Plateau is your bodies way af saying "Hey what is going on here, hold the phone, you are making too many changes way too fast" I completely agree with that and I understand that it will need to make the many updates within itself to accomodate the changes we just made. Sort of like a computer system when we delete a lot of things and need to defrag it.

As far as the second chapter....I don't agree with it totally but can see where it wants to create confusion to push past the plateau, in a way I can see this work but I would also hestitate out of fear of gaining.

If I were to put this strategy into effect I would maybe juggle the calorie intake (Ups & Downs) and just change up my exercise routine so my body doesn't know what hit it vs full on take this article to heart. I know that when our weight loss slows down, we need to kick it up by changing things around because our bodies have gotten used to what we have been doing in the past. Shock it so to speak, to use a new muscle or work a new part of the body. Even change a food, as creatures of habit we tend to stick with what works, thats why some diets get boring after awhile. Try a few new foods in the mix to get through the plateau.

But I do agree with you, there are problems with the second half of this article.

Interesting read... I think there is some real validity to it. I have been in a plateau for about two months now. While some may think I'm not eating enough of the right foods or expending enough calories... I am doing what I was doing to lose weight and more. I've tried various things to get the scale moving again, but I am just bouncing around the same few pounds. Reading that your body needs time to adjust and maintain your new lower weight before losing more makes sense to me. So, the work is maintaining that weight, continuing to eat well, continuing to exercise, and not giving up until the scale starts moving again.

    Thanks for posting!

Okay, not sure what I think of the second article. It is definitely coming from a diet approach and not a lifestyle approach... I am trying to change my eating habits in general... as well as my exercise habits. I don't think trying to go back to go back to my old ways however gradually will do me any good in the long run. some good info for sure, but I don't know that I would follow it all. I have started increasing my calories, but that doesn't mean I'm just eating bad food. Very interesting ideas...
