My doctor has done the basic thyroid test, which came out fine. If I wanted to see a specialist to see if something wrong with me could be prohibiting my weight loss, what type of doctor would you recommend?

Before you see anyone, have you ensured your logging is as accurate as possible (ie you’re weighing everything on a food scale)?10

Food is delicious, everywhere, comforting, fun, and easy to eat. We don't really need much food to be healthy and normal weight. Tighten up your logging, have realistic expectations, and be patient.8

The specialist you'd need is called a Registered Dietitian.
Save your money.
Use the myfitnesspal food diary to record every single calorie you eat.
And be patient.10 -
If the only issue you have is about weight, the advice given above is good. On the other hand, if you have other symptoms of hypothyroidism, it’s worth looking deeply into the issue. on thyroid patients support sites what normal ranges are. Doctors sometimes wait until we are too unwell to diagnose, in MY personal experience anyway. I’ve struggled for years before finding out I had Hashimotos. Try thyroid uk website.4

Are you logging your food? How many calories are you eating? How long have you tracked calories? Are you doing any exercise?0

Before seeking out a specialist, take a look at these stickied posts in the forum: http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10300331/most-helpful-posts-getting-started-must-reads/p1

Can you explain why you feel you may have a medical problem? Lack of weight loss in itself is not a medical symptom that a specialist will run tests for. In any case, an appropriate specialist would best be determined by your main doctor based on your symptoms and basic test results.0

Did your doctor do a full thyroid panel? The most basic test is not enough for some people. It can be helpful to have your T3 and T4 tested as well.0

Do you use a food scale to measure intake?0

why do you think something is wrong? If you are ACCURATELY and CONSISTENTLY WEIGHING your food CORRECTLY and still not losing, then sure, there could be. But a medical condition as a reason for no weight loss is pretty uncommon. it comes down to eating more than you think you are.
a doctor can not help you put the fork down and get your butt to the gym.5
