A lot of calories left, but not hungry. Help?

So today, I ate oatmeal for breakfast, which filled me. I had ravioli for a late lunch/early dinner and that filled me. For a snack I had a bag of Baked Lay's, and a bag of salt and vinegar chips. I am not really hungry, and don't feel that it's necessary to eat more; however, MFP tells me I am 1846 under my allotted caloric intake, and tells me I need to eat more calories, etc. Does anyone else have this problem? I mean, I know I only had 900 ish calories, but I'm just not hungry. I got a good amount of protein, carbs, etc. though. Any thoughts/suggestions?

  • Nuts - almonds, walnuts, pecans - just about any! High calories, filling & great for you. Just make sure you measure/count per serving!

When that happens to me, I eat some peanut butter with an apple. It's like a desert, but semi healthy and high in calories (at least the peanut butter is).

I have that same problem. i'm always way under what it says I should be eating. Partly because I bike every morning and it says I'm burning over 1,000 calories and it wants to add them to my daily intake. My net today once it totalled my food and subtracted my exercise was -13. Oookaaay. I'm not sure it's entirely accurate on the exercise calories though so I don't worry too much about that. I don't think it will matter if you go under once in a while, but long term it can cause your body to think its starving and hold on to everything you eat. I'm a classic example of that. Been on a plateau forever.

Increasing metabolism for weight loss REQUIRES sufficient intake of food. You don't necessarily need to eat 1800 more calories, but I'd eat at least another 600 - 800 hungry or not. Your number is likely that high because of exercise today and vigorous exercise requires extra calories to keep the body going. I eat a gross of around 2200 calories a day (I net between 1600 and 1800) and have been losing steadily for several months...I have the energy to exercise vigorously BECAUSE I consume enough calories. It's not just about percentages of different nutrients but really total calories. I know a lot of people have trouble with this logic, but it's the truth. If you want a really good read on metabolism, exercise, and total calories, I'd check out this article on breaking plateaus. http://fitnesswithnatalie.blogspot.com/2011/05/most-dreaded-word-in-weight-loss.html

Oh that's a good idea! I'll have to remember that.

You know, sometimes I think you should just listen to your body and not worry about it. If you weren't counting calories, you would probably just not eat again because you're not hungry and that would be fine. That's just my opinion. I don't necessarily think we should force feed ourselves when our bodies don't want any more.

You're likely not burning as much as you think.

I agree with the listen to your body sentiment. Though if this happens too often, there are some great suggestions here with the nut or nut butters.
  • i never have ate my calories back i burn, dont stuff yourself if you dont want anything, that wouldnt help at all. Eat if your hungry, if not, thats ok!

As it turns out, I did get hungry >.< so I took some of you guys' advice and had some peanut butter on toast--definitely filled me up and was VERY yummy! Thanks for the advice, everyone!
