Lifting does not equal weight loss it's all about calories in vs calories out. Lifting will tone and getting leaner which does increase your metabolism but lifting for straight weight loss is probably unlikely. I follow Michael Matthews Bigger Leaner Stronger book/program is an excellent place to start and understand what to do and how to do it.2

Along with a caloric deficit, like stated above.

Once you get close to goal, remember that it might not be WEIGHT loss, but rather size loss!! I am the same weight, but a size smaller.2
