I've had a quick search but can't find out much about having a protein shake BEFORE a workout. Is this advisable/unadvisable?
Thanks

can do, i eat or drink a shake about 1.5 - 2 hours before a workout.
also take 10gm's of BCAA as im leaving the house for gym.
lots of fuzzy information out there aye.
if im trainging in the morning, all i do is take the BCAA's before, then again 2 hours later, then 2 hours later again. I eat Intermittent fasting style, so i dont eat until 1300-1400 every day. I;ve seen no muscle loss from this. if anything i've gained mass around my chest and arms...and legs feel harder (although not "bigger", but thats probably them leaning out and growing at the same time.
Scivation Xtend is what i use.0 -
Nutritionally, it's fine. The only issue might be if it makes you cramp up or if you feel it sloshing around your belly when you work out. I would probably give it an hour or so if you have the time. If not, then go for it.0

Generally carbs before / protein after. But I don't think it will harm you, there are better things for pre workout though.0

there are times i take a protein shake before working out, (within 30-45min before working out) especially if it's in the early morning and i want something in my belly. but def recommend after workout along with a piece of a fruit like a banana or something.0

Thanks - I'm just short on time/things to make at the moment so I guess that's better than nothing to work out on! I'll give it a whirl - as long as it's ok nutritionally then I should be fine. Just got in from uni and I'm far too tired to think up anything more inventive!0

I did it once, I almost puked. I do a packet of Emergen C right before my workout, It seems to energize me. Haven't checked out any pre workout drinks.0

again, not right before, 1.5-2 hours is best. though training in a fasted state is fine also. despite what some folk might think.
its all on leangains.com
cheers.
