Hi everyone - first time posting here!

About 3 years ago, I weighed around 130 (I'm 5'2"). I wasn't really fat, but I had no muscle tone or strength. I moved to a new place to be with my boyfriend and we broke up 2 months later. I lived within walking distance to a gym and channeled all my negative energy and stress into working out. I would go 4 or 5 times a week for around 2 hours (45 min cardio, the rest weights). I was in the best shape of my life and my self esteem was great!

Fast forward to now. I am in a new relationship and have moved to a different town, so I can no longer walk to the gym (in fact, my gym was damaged in hurricane Maria and hasn't reopened). I've gained 30ish pounds and now weigh the most I have ever weighed in my life. My self esteem is in the basement and I'm so hard on myself for getting to this point.

Does anyone have advice for how I can motivate myself to start enjoying workouts again? In the last two weeks I had an epiphany about my eating habits and I'm getting back on track in that regard.. but I just can't seem to move my butt off the couch when I get home. It's really frustrating since my schedule used to revolve around the gym and my workouts and now I can't even be bothered to do 10 squats at home.

I would suggest just starting off small maybe some workout videos at home even walking around your house to gain motivation! Once you see small results you will thrive for bigger accomplishments and feel better! Don’t be to hard on yourself we all have struggles and situations that alter us some for good some for bad, but in the end You Got This!! Good Luck on your journey!!

if you have money I would invest in a fitbit. You can start by doing some walking like maybe 2000 steps and then increase it over a period of time. I was pretty much a couch potato when I started. (my poor dog) His walks were pretty much being let out and going as far as needed to do his duty and come home. Anyway a fitbit will help motivate you to get in more steps and probably eventually lead you to wanting to do more exercise once you start seeing results. It gives you alerts when it is time to walk. I started with 1500 and slowly increased it to doing between 15,000 and 20,000 every day almost.

Can u get up early and do a workout before work? That's what I do, then the day can't get in the way. I have slowly built up a nice collection of workout videos so there are lots of choices each day.

If you are working, can you take a walk during your lunch break? Sometimes that will help you get back into the swing of things. Maybe even rope a coworker into doing that with you. You used to do a lot of walking and 45 minutes of cardio... have you considered doing the Couch to 5K program? It'll get you outside, you start out slow with a mix of walking and slow jogging, and after many weeks you'll have progressed and you'll see you have more stamina. (Totally don't think about speed, it's all about just finishing the workout.) Anyway, I downloaded the Zenlabs app on my phone and I'm so glad I added that into my week. It got me off my butt and now my legs have some pretty nice definition.

Here's another idea: why not ask your relationship partner to join you for a walk around your neighborhood after you both get home at the end of the day. If your neighborhood is boring, drive to a park and walk around that. Walking together is a really nice time to share the events of the day and have pleasant conversations about anything you can think of.
