My breakfast seems innocent. Bran flakes with 2% milk, 1cup fresh cherries and a coffee. How can I be over my sugar for the day already? Tips? Tricks? Looking for fast, cheap and cheerful breakfast ideas that won't push me past my sugar allowance for thd day. Besides dropping the teaspoon of sugar in my coffee. P.s. I don't do sweetners.

  • What do you put in your coffee? Also, fruits, although they are good sugars, still have lots of sugar. You may need to check your settings as well...
  • The cherries? Fruit always takes me over my sugar if I haven't worked out yet for the day. I just ignore it when I know that I've been good.

Most people here say don't count fruit as sugar. So, basically, eat all the fruit you want.

That having been said, I'm low-carb, so I don't even eat much fruit minus a handful of strawberries or blueberries here and there. :)

What type of bran flakes? Are they sugar coated? Also, is it refined sugar or the sugar from the cherries? You can try unsweetend almond milk in your cereal in place of the milk you normally use.
In my opinion, the sugar from the fruit should not be counted against you, but a lot of people disagree and I think for weight loss purposes, it could be an issue if you are constantly going over due because of fruit. There is a difference in the way your body processes natural sugar and refined sugar.

    coffee: 1/4 cup milk.
I know it's the fruit that does it, but as a Canadian my urge is to eat as much fresh local fruit as I can get my hands on while the season allows....but I see this can be a downfall, as sugars (bread oh yummmmmy bread) is my downfall. Thanks for your comments. I'll keep the numbers in mind when I'm squeezing in a workout of some kind today.
    Cheers!

I am diabetic and have to monitor my blood glucose several times a day. From doing this I know that anything "carby" will spike the blood sugar in a big way. Carbohydrates are turned into sugar in the body so they count as sugar when you enter them in your log. Fruits are very high in natural sugars so, once again, count as sugar in your entries.

It's All Bran Flakes...nothing coated or anything. I understand that there are sugars (and often lots of them) in fruit, my challenge lies in finding fast, hunger satisfying breakfast foods that don't push me over in the sugar department before my day is even started. It's interesting see that I've actually been having quite a bit of "sugar" in the morning without even really knowing it. Could explain my desire for sugar all day. Going to try finding an alternate morning routine that has very few sugars, see if that helps my cravings.
