Juicing

For the first time in my life I have begun juicing. I used a beet, orange, lemon and two apples. A bit messy however, quite tasty. Does anyone juice? Do you find it helpful or counter intuitive to your goals. Calculations gave me 297 calories.

Juicing unfortunately eliminates the most beneficial parts of the fruits and vegetables - fiber. This helps with satiety and digestive health. There are no benefits to juicing alone. Blending would be a better (and probably less messy option).6

Juicing, for me, was too big of a calorie hit with no fiber, it left me crazy hungry. I did not do well drinking juice. I eat my vegetables instead, in which, it really helped me with my lifelong struggle with constipation. Who’d a thunk!6

My wife and I have been making green smoothies for breakfast since after New Years. We put a ton of kale in them and our ninja blender is able to almost vaporize it since the kale is frozen. The added fiber has definitely been a nice way to help keep our bodies cleaned out after having a couple cheat meals over the weekend. Plus we get all of our fruits out of the way each morning in the smoothie as well.4

If you juice think about saving the pulp (fiber) for a day or two. It's easy to throw into spaghetti sauce or stew for a nutrition hit!2

Smoothies might be a better fiber choice.
Fruit juice sugars don't do a whole lot in regards to the hunger factor. Hopefully you are not diabetic...juices are a no no.3 -
I'd personally not want to spend 300 calories on some juice that isn't going to do anything for me in terms of hunger. When I drink my calories, it for sure isn't juice...5

If I make juice, I only juice vegetables. no fruit. Sometimes when I have days where I feel as if I didn't eat enough veggies, I'll have juice. Or if it's really hot and I feel like a cool drink that's not water - juice. Especially after a long hike.
I stick with juicing - celery, lettuce, lemon, parsley, cucumber, and spinach1 -

This is the best juicing option. Fruits concentrated down fructose...no so good3 -
I love juicing. I will make a juice for my family to have with breakfast or dinner. I use a mix of vegetables and fruit and always make something different. I've also done a few juice cleanses for a few days at a time. Juice cleansing is really for rest and repair of the digestive system. To the person who said there were no benefits to juicing alone. That is incorrect. There are the benefits of the concentrated vitamins and minerals you get in every glass. That's enough to include it in a healthy diet. I like to juice (removing the fiber) instead of make smoothies because I like the flavor a lot better. So personal preference. They are both good for you. And to answer your question I find it helps me in my goals because a lot of the time when you restrict calories some people tend to restrict nutrients. I want to make sure I'm getting all the best nutrients.7
