Is this a yuck? or a medical thing?

Either way. Just skip the egg salad... Or use miracle whip(yuck)

Have you tried Just Mayo? It's gluten free (animal product free, too!) & I like the taste of it :)

it's a medical thing. allergic to yeast, and gluten intolerant.

You could make your own mayo - http://dish.allrecipes.com/making-mayonnaise/

This recipe has no vinegar added.

I often use laughing cow cream cheese wedges instead of mayo in my egg salad, but I don't know if it has any of the ingredients you need to avoid. It might be worth checking out.

The vegan mayo in the post above is good. You can also substitute mashed, ripe avocado and a little lemon juice for mayo. The flavor isn't the same but it gives you the creamy texture and the fat in avocado is good for you. Just keep it within your calories for the day.

I like to use avocado in place of mayo in egg salad, I usually also add relish and spicy mustard but I've done it without and it's still pretty good, albeit bland. Wasabi is a great idea though!

I've used a Laughing Cow cheese wedge to mix with my egg for an egg salad sandwich before. It wasn't too bad. I've thought about trying it with sour cream, but not sure how that would turn out.

Could you try mixing with tahini or hummus? Not the same flavor but not bland either.

I make my own mayo with 1 whole egg plus one egg yolk, 1/2 to 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice, 1/2 tsp salt or to taste. Blend in a food processor. Drip in 1 cup neutral tasting oil through the drip hole in the food processor tube and blend until the proper consistency.

You can also blend in 1/2 cup of herbs of your choice to this for an herb mayo.

Or add garlic, onion and chili peppers for spicy mayo.

Last night I made a salad with grilled salmon, lettuce, grape tomatoes, hard boiled egg, and avocado. At the suggestion of this thread, I made a dressing out of blended cottage cheese. I added dill and a bit of vinegar to thin it out. It went really well with the egg and avocado, so I could see it working nicely in egg salad. You could use lemon juice or even water in place of the vinegar.

avocado, plain 0 fat greek yogurt, chopped cilantro, some pepper & sea salt (blended in food processor) OR the same using cottage cheese instead of greek yogurt. YUM! I also use the cottage cheese/avo to make chicken salad and it's delish.

Can you have hummus? It's great in tuna instead of mayo.
