Benefiber = Gas???

I started taking Benefiber last week to help get more fiber into my diet. Since I started taking it I have been having bad gas and bloating.

Has anyone else experienced gas and/or bloating while taking Benefiber? If so, did it eventually go away or did you have to stop taking it?

EDIT: Thanks everyone for your input. I will keep adding the Benefiber to some of my meals, but I will stop putting it in my daily water. I guess I will have to finally break down and eat those fruits. Not a big fruit fan, but I will learn to choke it down :)

    When your body is not used to alot of fiber you do tend to have gas once you add it. You should increase your fiber intake gradually in order for your body to get used to the added fiber in your diet.

    It will stop when you get used to the amount you're taking in. :)
  • It should slow down. You should check out shakeology too. It has your daily amount of fiber plus so much more!

    Any added or excess of fiber in the body can have this effect on you. Sometimes you're body will adjust to it over time; with some people, it's just an expected side effect of the fiber. Even products like FiberOne cereals and bars will do the same thing to you... it's 'a blast' isn't it? (I couldn't resist) Seriously though, I find you're less likely to have the ill effects of fiber if you increase it gradually, and through natural sources, such as increasing fiber packed fruit and veggie intake, versus supplements.

    I am eating a lot more fiber now and I have gas too, I hope it stops soon!

    Yup, your body has to learn to use that fiber. Any unused fiber get's fermented, and therefore produces CO2 and other gases.

    Here I thought it was just me having a bad reaction to the fiber one bars lol. Well...Good to know that its ugh... Normal haha.

    fiber is very rough on your system I wouldn't recommend getting more fiber that way, stick with your veggies and add in some healthy fats. Coconut oil always gets me moving minus the bloating and gas :)

    Yeah, also foods that have "Protected Carbs", will do the same thing!
