For me, I would just have some nuts or a small piece of fruit, water, and maybe coffee. After I would just eat what I normally have for breakfast. There’s no need to eat anything special before or after a 5k.
For longer distances, I eat something more something more substantial before running and after.

I don't eat before a 5k. If I was running it first thing in the morning, I'd have enough water to take my morning meds and off I'd go.2

I don't eat before my morning workouts. Just a glass of water works for me.
Hours later I eat a regular big, balanced breakfast.4 -
I also do my morning runs fasted, unless it's more than about 15km, in which case I'll have a piece of toast or something first so I have some quick energy. Eating in the morning before a run always makes my stomach hurt.
I do usually have a small (black) coffee first too.
After, it's more coffee and my usual breakfast.0 -
just water ..... then when I come back I become uncontrollably hungry and eat freaking everything ... dang I hate running days, they ruin my whole weaks calorie intake1

Before? Nothing.
After, whatever... maybe a swig of chocolate milk.
It's all personal preference. And a 5k isn't long enough to really *NEED* anything, so it's entirely up to you and what makes you feel the best.1 -
Water before, normal breakfast after1

Water before, if anything. I can't do much b/c it hurts my tummy. Afterwards, more water and maybe something with some protein. I do smoothie for breakfast.1

In general, before running:
*Nothing too big
*Nothing greasy
*Nothing that will otherwise bother your stomach (spicy, for instance, or milk if you're lactose-intolerant)
After running:
* Whatever fits your diet
* Be sure to hydrate, especially if it is hot or especially windy out.
It's really that simple, unless you're getting to elite levels. There are a *lot* of food targeted to athletes--and while most of them are harmless don't buy into the idea you need to eat special "athlete chow" or something.1
