Vitamin B complex

I have been considering taking this supplement. A friend had recommended it to boost my metabolism, but I also read that it can help with water retention. Does/has anybody taken a vitamin B complex? How well did it work for you?

Be careful with Vitamin B. I started taking B-12 this summer to help with anxiety, and it has completely broken out the skin on my face. Apparently, this is a fairly common reaction. So now I have anxiety because my face looks like a pizza! Haha.0

Well actually, I am anemic so I'm not entirely sure my body will absorb B12 in a supplement.0

I've taken B complex without any adverse side effects. I don't know if it helped my metabolism but it is proven to increase energy and give you healthy hair. Also, it has folic acid which is good for women to take daily.0

I take it everyday. I've had no problems with this vitamin. :flowerforyou:0

I take a B Complex supplement every day and I find it makes me more spritely on a morning other than that I dont see a massive difference, but everyone is different0

I can't say if it helps boost the metabolism or not, but I've been taking a vitamin B complex for years...it does help me with the water retention - particularly around that TOM. I take it for a number of reasons, but the biggest thing I notice when I DON'T take it is that my PMS symptoms are WAY worse!
That's good enough for me to take it. LOL0 -
I know when I took a straight B complex vitamin I peed a ton, but I also wasn't hungry. Not sure if that's because vitamins tend to make me sick to my stomach (although I have been taking Flinstones since Friday and so far I'm fine) or if it was the B complex itself.0

I take vitamin b complex daily and it has increased my energy levels0

I am not a doctor but..... if you are anemic then Vit B complex could only help. You need these as they are precursors to hemoglobin. You would only know if you dont absorb these through additional testing. And if you dont absorb them you will just pee the excess out as they are all water soluble.0

Do you supplement with iron for your anemia? I like to supplement with Nature Made B-100 Complex. It's over the counter and it has many of the B vitamins. If your body doesn't need something then it will just pee it out.0 -
i take lots of it, dont feel 'right ' when i dont take it anymore0

Just researched a bit more. I have had pernicious anemia since I was baby. The only time I was ever to hold on to enough B12 was when I was on prenatal vitamins. Reading about it though, I really think my mother might be suffering from a similar condition.0 -

I used to, but it was never enough. The prenatals worked wonders but after having my kids, I just tried to eat high iron foods or I just didn't worry about it.0 -
I've been taking a vitamin B complex mainly for depression and fatigue. At first it worked great, I had TONS of energy, but my body must of gotten used to taking it because now I don't notice any difference.0

Why not take prenatals again? You don't have to be pregnant to take them...0 -
A good B complex is worth taking. Get a decent timed release one. Or just get a really good multivitamin that's loaded with B's already.
As far as the one with the rash, that's typically only seen with higher doses of B-3 (niacin). Then again everyone is different.0 -
I would advise talking with either your physician first or a Registered Dietician because perhaps you need bloodwork done and/or a diet analysis to see where you are deficiet in exactly. I take B-complex for issues with mentruation and my gyn okayed that.0

Well actually, I'm having those kind of issues too. That's why I was considering it.0
