Question in regards to weight loss

Hey everyone,
So I’m currently sitting around 233 and my goal is to be around 190 which is my normal weight. I’m using MFP and trying to eat under my calories everyday.
I go to the gym 4x a week and have been doing 95% strength training and 5% cardio.
What burns more fat? Strength training or cardio?
I’m trying to look slimmer, shed pounds and get rid of the belly.
Suggestions on what’s best to do while I’m at the gym to help achieve thos goal?
Thanks

A calorie deficit. You cannot outrun overeating.9

Yeah, it’s taken me a while for this to sink in- after most of my life being very athletic - diet is 90% and exercise, specifically weight lifting is like 10% if the equation... using weights or body weight, just builds the framework to show off your physique. If you want to burn fat, eat less and move more, and lift weights so your body has a beautiful shape after you cut the fat...3

As noted, a calorie deficit - eating fewer calories than we burn - is how we lose fat. But, to answer your specific question, most types of cardio burn more calories per minute than most types of weight training.
However, when in a calorie deficit, most of us end up burning some lean tissue (including muscle) alongside the fat. Not good! Strength training is a way to minimize muscle loss while losing fat.
So, best bet for overall health and fitness: Do some cardio, and some strength training.7 -

Is your goal of 190 for physique purposes? Or just weight?
The answers above are correct, but can be incomplete depending on your goals. You can get from where you are (233) to where you want to be (190) in a number of ways. Personally I like that you are doing most of your exercise through lifting. That's likely to result in a better physique when you get to your 190 than if you were simply trying to do nothing but burn fat - either by eating less by itself, or increasing your deficit with cardio (which has plenty benefit on its own depending your goals). Because in a defecit, you'll burn both fat and muscle. By weight training you should be able to preserve more muscle.
