So, as it states in my subject, (sorry be redundant) a friend is going to let me borrow "Insanity". Any advice that you wish you had had before starting it. Or do you have any helpful tips for me? I'm a Noob when it comes to "Insanity workouts".

(Thanks in advance):blushing:

just listen to what it says go at your own pace, rest when you need to. You will get better.

my first first week, i could not even make it through the warm up without resting.

dont get frustrated, keep going, you will notice the dudes on the video having to stop too,

oh and to quote hitchhikers guide to the galaxy always bring a towel

Listen to your body and take it slow to begin with. You will be tempted to go hard like the folks in the video and you need to build up to it. I did one jump/turn/squat thing and my hip hurt for a week. It is a great workout though!

I am starting insanity month 2....have you done any workouts before...this one is intense....and be carful if you have any knee, foot or shoulder problems....there is a lot of jumping, plyo type and a lot of pushups involved (you will be amazed that you can do a push up in so many different positions!!!!) that said I am 49 years old and had heel/acchilles surgery in Feb and 5 shoulder surgeries in the last 6 years and I can do the workout...I just dont jump as high, and have to sometimes modify some of the shoulder work....ALSO, as it says in the video time after time after time...it is about speed BUT DONT compromise FORM for speed and DONT compromise form when you are to tired ...take a break...Follow that advise and you will be fine.....

People ask do you love insanity?? NO..I dont LOVE insanity...:grumble: I LOVE what it is doing for me and how much more energy I have:love::smile:

Good Luck and DIG DEEPER...you will surprise yourself how far you can go...:drinker:

and don't feel bad if you feel akward, cant tell you how many times i have tripped over my own feet doing suicide drills
  • Definitely have a towl and a HUGE thing of water next to you. Push all the way through, even though you will not be able to keep up with the people in the DVD - remember your form or else you will hurt yourself! Also take some Motrin when you are done it will help with the inevitable amount of pain you will feel the next day!!! Enjoy it, it's HARD but very well worth it in my opinion =)

Just do it! I didn't have to pause much except for push ups and the switch kicks but take it at your pace. It is a great workout. I am in the recovery week and geeked for month 2 (and afraid)! I love it!

AMEN sistah...so glad I am at home some times...I have tripped doing those too and have jumped backwards during globe jumps only to fall on my bum.....:blushing:
  • Get the right shoes. I was using my running shoes at first, but I found they weren't right for this workout. For the second half of Insanity I bought a pair of gym shoes that provide better ankle support and it helped a lot.

Have fun - it will kick your butt, but it works.

    What you need:

Good tennis shoes, preferably cross trainers
    Lots of water on hand
    Towel
Music that gets your heart rate up--fast tempo
    Yoga mat (optional)

Month 1 is approx. 40 mintues, month 2 is approx 1 hour.

Find your own pace and don't give up. Suggestion: if you're not really physically fit, you may want to do month 1 twice before moving onto month 2. Month 2 is a kick in the teeth compared to month 1. Good luck! You can do it!!

Push as hard as you can (without injuring yourself) but don't be afraid to take breaks. If you feel like throwing up take a break. No shame in that.

Definitely have a towel...I literally DRIP in sweat when I'm doing it.

Go barefoot (if you can) or else get GOOD shoes. I do Insanity barefoot all the time (I also go barefoot as much as I can) and I know somebody who wore shoes (only for workouts but not the greatest quality) and she screwed up her knees so badly she couldn't walk for a week or so.

But from that point, also make sure to use the proper form!! It will also wreck your knees if you're not careful. Use proper form and if your knees start hurting modify the exercises...don't squat as low, don't jump as high, etc.

That's all that I can think of...it's an awesome workout! I LOVE it....I should go to do it right now...just remember to listen to your body. if you don't you'll end up wrecking yourself and throwing up. lol Start slower and slowly build speed and intensity.

Thanks for all the wonderful advice. I get bored easily with workout vids and routines. From what I've heard this will definitely keep my attention. So, I will definitely bring a towel, H20, and my energized 'tude. I live on the second floor of an apartment building (actually they are condos), so I may have to do modified jumping. I can't wait to see how many calories my HRM says that I burn. YAY!

    Thanks again for advice!

Goodluck i might be trying it soon, although i like the results of the men more than the woman. The ladies seem to square out and become less feminine (not that there is anything wrong with that) and the men just become... Amazing. I might purchase it for the fiance's birthday present. So he can be my arm candy instead of the other way around lol

I would probably say the same. I actually seriously do love the workout. lol Even though I feel like I'm dying by the end. lol
