Hi all. I’m excited to start this adventure. I think it will be easier with a community who is focused on getting healthier.

Any suggestions on how to overcome cravings?

What is it you are craving? and why?

A lot of diet related cravings are down to going too aggressive or needlessly cutting things out altogether and making them more tempting because they're "off the menu"

Take it slow, weight loss is a marathon not a sprint, smaller changes over time will stick a lot easier for most of us than trying to make a load of drastic changes all at once. Consider a slower rate of loss, 1lb per week doesn't sound like a lot, but that's 52 pounds in a year, and might be a lot less miserable and easier to stick with.

Unless you really can't moderate your intake of something, there is no reason it has to be off the menu completely, I've still had pizza night occasionally, weekend drinks and daily dose of chocolate throughout my weight loss.

Start by getting yourself a food scale and logging your normal intake accurately, it can help you see where you've been taking in surplus calories and then you can make small changes to get down to your calorie goal by:
    • reducing portion sizes
    • substituting more filling foods for those that aren't so filling
    • being mindful of empty calories like condiments, dressings, sugary drinks & beverages
    • switching to lower calorie versions of items

Once you have calorie counting down to an art you can experiment with different balances of food to see what keeps you fuller for longer (Macros).
