Snapping hip

I have had snapping hip since I can remember it use to only cause me pain on occasion but now it's all the time. Much worse when I'm trying to sleep. Only time it was brought up to a doctor I was in my early teens and told to stretch more that it was common so I've never been too concerned but the pain is pretty severe now I'd rather try to fix the issue on my own then waste money to be told I need to stretch again anyone else with this issue have ideas what else I can try?

    Tell your doctor. If they don't attempt to help you, get a second opinion.

    Go to the doctor, hopefully a physiotherapist, but also, clamshells can build up the muscle around your hip and support it a bit more. I have a similar issue (joints not formed properly).

    not a doctor. not advising you. no idea if your hip and my hip both have the same kind of snap. but fwiw:

    i've had a snapping left hip for a couple of years, at least: in front across that side of my groin, most notably if i tried to do the alternate arm-and-leg thing while doing a deadbug hold. and somewhere at the back of the joint, most notably when i was doing quadruped hip circles. stretching has never done much good for me. paradoxically, what worked for me was to strengthen, not stretch. but i strengthen the 'support' muscles around whatever is causing the snap.

    so what resolves the front one at least is getting my transverse abdominus muscles involved before putting the hip through whatever motion is causing the snap. at least i think it's my tva. i'm talking about the muscle you'll have your hand on if you either put it where your appendix would be, or you were wearing some really tight jeans and pushed the flat of your hand into the front pocket on either side.

    to kill the hip snap, i have to get into position in a relaxed state, and then place my hand there and make actively sure that that muscle is really braced and engaged. for as long as i have that muscle engaged, that particular snap goes away.

    the rear-joint/hip circle one i haven't yet fully resolved. but then to be fair i haven't really been trying too hard on that one.

    I am not sure what kind I have didn't know there were different ones until today. I've had this issue as far back as I can remember and I'm 30 now Mines always noticable but pain went from once a month if I slept wrong to everyday. Both hips hurt but one much worse and pain shoots down my leg to my knee. I will be trying some new stretching and if it doesn't seem to get better will go to a doctor. Thank you for the advice

    Snapping Hip is usually worse with activity, not rest.. and it doesn't usually hurt down to the knee, so you may have something else going on too, like a pinched nerve, for example.

    Not sure of your exact symptoms, but I'd do some research on femoral acetabular impingement (FAI) and labral tears. This can cause snapping hip as well as catching and pain in the groin area.
