Hello all,

About 4 years ago I introduced myself and was about 207 pounds with a goal of 185. I currently way about 218 pounds now with a goal of 200.

The problem is I was lucky to have a fast metabolism growing up. From birth to about 30 years old I ate what I wanted and treated my body like crap! Sleepless nights, greasy foods, and sugar sugar sugar! All good things must come to an end however and now I’m paying the price for my carelessness. I have about 20 years, now 35 years old, of poor habits to change and I’m struggling to change them! Because of this I keep gaining weight and getting more and more lazy when it comes to my health.

I know what I need to do, but my cravings and temptations are so difficult for me to control.

This past weekend, I choose to no buy groceries and binged on pizza, sushi, burgers, Taco Bell, and the ol’ Starbucks sugary liquid treats. I estimate 4000+ calories in a day, 8000 over the weekend. I should not be surprised when I step in the scale next Monday, but I will be, and I’ll beat myself up and possibly eat something for that quick dopamine boost.

Can anyone give me some tips and strategies to help with my predicament?

Thanks a bunch!

portion control and slowly change what your eating / cooking. I know its not easy, trust me I went from omnivore to vegan over night, not easy. So what you want to do is not go cold turkey. lets say you love 10 sodas a week. ok well slowly bring that number down, try 8 sodas and then 6 sodas. say you love mayonnaise, try transitioning to hummus, healthier and still pretty delicious. instead of butter on the stove top try coconut oil or olive oil, you only need like mayb 1-2 table spoons and cook away. and it really doesn't alter the taste (I use coconut oil all the time and it doesn't affect the flavor). and it sounds like you eat out a lot, mayb try getting some close friends or family to do this with you, sometimes its hard to stay motivated when you are the only one motivating yourself. remember even if you go in with other people, you can not always 100% rely on them. this will help you practice more self control. also I see you eat out a lot, trade some of your choices for mayb a salad with chicken or whatever, not all your choices. remember slowly transition and maintain the transition, this is not a diet but a life style change :)

What is it you think you need to do? Why don’t you do it?

Start small. Build discipline in one area at a time. Maybe you would like to start by cooking your own meals or reducing soda/sugars. Maybe it’s easier for you to start by eating less fast food. We can’t really choose that route for you, but you will have to make one change and just start and keep it up.

Set your goals to be both measurable (not just in weight- if you chose soda reduction may be you’re working to get down to one soda instead of 4 a day) and have a time limit (maybe those sodas need to be cut out by summer in your goals).
