decisions... decisions... What do you think?

I have been trying to stick to (about) 1200 calories per day (making sure that they are not empty calories) ... & USUALLY I'm a bit over. TODAY however, I've mostly been making myself eat. I have yet to eat dinner (altho waiting for it to heat in oven) & even after I eat it, I'll only have eaten 1000 calories... I'm not really all that hungry now, but will have my dinner.

My question is... should I just "skip" the 200 calories I'm lacking for "today" as I normally go over? Or should I try to make those calories up with a drink or something?

help!

Kim

If you're not hungry, leave it.

1200 is extremely low to begin with and most people choose it by mistake. It is the lowest number MFP will set no matter what you put for your stats. Unless you are super tiny, you probably need more than that -- so if your net is even lower than 1200, I would try and eat something. It won't hurt to do this once in awhile, but if you do it consistenly you'll just stop losing and begin starving your body.

Maybe your stomach is getting used to smaller portions...I personally wouldn't eat it if your not hungry. I'm not an expert, though. I do think if you eat too little calories on a regular basis, you won't lose the weight...but for one night, I wouldn't do it!
  • I would have a healthy snack...fruit, nuts, peanut butter and an apple, etc. You need to get your calories in or your body will start thinking it needs to store the little you are giving it!

This. Have a big glass of skim milk. 12oz is 135 calories.
  • I personally wouldn't worry about it - if you are under today - tomorrow you might go over and it will even itself out.

1200 cals is what MFP have been telling me to eat for a couple of months now (I started on 1380 I think) - and some days I don't make the 1200 either.

Don't stress over it, that could possibly make you eat more and you don't want to do that either :)

Good luck on you weight-loss journey

I think for today it's probably okay, but don't make a habit of it. Keep track of your calorie count throughout the day and keep an eye on how your doing. If you're looking low, have an apple or some other healthy snack to give your body the nutrients it needs.

One lite day isn't going to hurt you. I do this every so often. some days you just aren't that hungry for millions of reasons - I also have days where I eat a couple hundred over (cutting into my 500 deficit but still a deficit).

Normal people have days where they eat way over their "maintenance" calories (even if the don't know what their maintenance is) and days where they eat under their maintenance. my thin friends don't carefully coutn their calories and eat XX00 every single day - one day they pig out at a bbq and the next day they think "man I ate way too much yesterday and I had 5 beers, all I want to eat today is a piece of toast and a salad".

1200 calories is not a lot to begin with, I would try to get as close as possible to the calorie goal. I go over my goal on a regular basis but I am still loosing weight. I wouldn't get to hung up on going slightly over. Also, I try to make my lunch my largest meal. If I over eat, I have time before the end of the night to do a little cardio to bridge the gap.
