55 pounds. It took 40 weeks and 4 days to gain, and 11 months and one week to lose. My baby boy turns one this month. As some of you know, I have five kids. I gained a lot of weight gestating those kids, and didn't have much luck losing that weight until I found MFP. Mostly because I blamed everything else except how much food I was eating. This is my second time taking the weight off. The first time I lost 70 pounds in two years. I said I'd come back after I lost the baby weight, so here I am. And I'm not done yet, but I figure I'll know when I see it. So here's what I did:
Height: 5'1"
Starting weight: 195lbs.
Current weight: 139.8lbs.
I bought a food scale and used it. I logged every food, measured every liquid, tracked every bite. I ate everything. I ate chocolate, junk food, fast food, ice cream. Just as long as it fit within my calorie goal for the day. The only macro I focused on was protein.
I lifted heavy in accordance with a progressive lifting program. I'm currently doing the Strong Curves advanced workout, but I've done Starting Strength and StrongLifts in the past. This had a profound impact on the amount of muscle I've managed to maintain while I lost fat. It takes a lot of muscle to carry around a body that was once over 200 pounds, and I would like to keep most of that muscle. Eventually, I would like to grow that muscle bigger and stronger.
Tracked my weight and calories in a trending app (Libra). This was important for making sure I was getting enough calories and not losing too quickly while breastfeeding. On average I eat 2000-2100 calories a day to lose a pound a week. My Fitbit also helped me figure out my activity level so I knew to eat more on very active days.
Just remember, you didn't gain it overnight, and you're not going to lose it overnight either. If you stick with it long enough and follow the rules by eating less, you'll lose weight. No, you're probably not going to magically revert back to the person you were before kids. But you can become someone better.

My 4th has just turned one and I'm fully focused and on track to loose all my baby's weight that I've slowly gained over 13 yrs.

Thank you all! One of the first questions I had when I lost weight was whether my stomach muscles/skin/stretch marks would improve so I wanted to post about that for any mamas wondering the same thing. In the white dress above, my baby was about 6 months old and I still looked very pregnant. After lifting heavy and doing maybe 5 minutes of plank work every week (so no real ab workout), I've seen a lot of improvement. I still have some loose skin and a little diastasis that probably won't ever go away, but I'm really happy with how things are going and I can see abs in my future.

Thanks for posting-- I am working on losing my "baby weight" as my youngest turns 21! I love the pic of you and your girls, and the end pic--clearly your weight training is doing great things for you. I also appreciate your higher calorie intake still resulting in weight loss--we don't have to be extreme to succeed!2

Absolutely! I lost the rest of my 70 pounds of baby weight after my youngest turned two! I definitely wasn't willing to deprive myself of food to lose weight. The food scale is the key to knowing how much I can eat. There's no reason to underfeed myself because I know exactly how much I can eat and lose weight. No guessing and no underfeeding because I might be logging incorrectly. I know activity trackers don't work for everyone, but mine has been very accurate as far as eating calories back and now I know my activity level is higher than I originally thought. So those two things have made a big difference.7 -
You are such an inspiration!!! I love what you said at the beginning about blaming everything but the food you were eating that is exactly what I did lol!! I posted my own success story a while back doing almost exactly what u did except instead of lifting I did spinning. Thank you for taking the time to post your journey. Every single story is so important in our community to inspire and to remind us that there is still a chance for us to be healthy no matter how old we are how many kids we have how rich or poor, it really is in our own self control.3

Thanks for sharing. I have 7 kiddos youngest is 18mo. I just started using a kettlebell last week so it’s great to see other lifting moms. My youngest thinks it’s hilarious when I do swings.4

This is amazing. Mom of 3 here, had all of them in less that 4 years time. It was definitely hard on my body. My youngest is 1 yr and 4 months and I'm finally back down to the weight I was before having babies. I'm excited to keep making progress and keep finding muscles and bones I haven't seen in a while. You are inspiring!1

Thanks! Pretty much never on the protein powder. I'd rather chew my calories. I'm sure there are blends that are safe while breastfeeding but I wouldn't know which.1 -

I logged through most of my pregnancy to avoid gaining too much as I was still carrying an extra 40 pounds from my now 7 year old son
I've been seriously logging and exercising (alternating strength and cardio) again since Jan and have lost 14 further pounds after losing and gaining the same 7 pounds for the past 7 years it's a victory for me. I'm currently 173-175 and my goal is 133 pounds from being 189 at my heaviest.
You're a great inspiration now and give me hope that I can do this! My oldest my only daughter is now 18 and I want to inspire her1 -

You can do it! I know you can! Once you settle into something sustainable, it will just hit you that you can keep going until you see it through. It won't be torture and you KNOW you'll keep making progress if you keep going. For the longest time I convinced myself that the scale could never go below a certain point and I could never be anything other than overweight, but now I know what BS that is. I don't feel like anything is impossible anymore. I just have to keep going.0
