I am starting a water fast. Has anyone tired it? How did it go? Any tips for self control and working while fasting?

May I ask what you're hoping to achieve with this, and how long you're intending to do it for?7

I guess you dont want to take weight loss seriously. Maybe next time.9

Water fasts are meant to be accompanied with rest and self reflection.
They have no place in the fitness realm.11 -
I am doing it too get rid of toxins and weight. I plan on doing it as long as I can. (Probably wont be long I have terrible self control). I am also hoping when I come out of the fast dieting will be easier for me.34

y tho?
I've fasted overnight to make weight for a competition. Comes right back on as soon as you eat or drink. I literally lost 8 pounds over night, drank coffee/ate breakfast and put it right back on.
Don't do that.11 -
You shouldn't work on a zero cal water fast. That is meant more for quiet contemplation. You definitely should not do it to lose weight.7

This is seriously a terrible idea and to be Frank it sounds about one step from an eating disorder. Please reconsider.9

What kind of toxins do you think you have that needs removing?
In this one instance having no self control and ending the water fast will be in your best interest. This is a terrible idea and no it won't help you with easier weight loss.5 -
Sounds kinda dangerous to me
Edit: if you're dehydrated won't the toxins in your blood just be more concentrated; i.e. less diluted?3 -
Well I was considering it since I am going to the beach in a month. Its scary for me all my sisters are smaller and there will be so many pictures15

How much did you intend to lose in one month?
You can start your calorie deficit now and lose a few before then and not have to resort to unhealthy and dangerous weight loss methods.7 -
A few pounds.. I will still be fat in their eyes. I would like to loose 20 pounds people who do it for 20 days can sometimes loose that much that quickly. Since no one is supporting this I can only imagine what the people I work with will say haha..15

Dieting doesn't get easier with stunts. You are actually better off moving into a diet slowly.

You don't lose 20 pound of fat this way. Sorry friend. Start logging your calories and eat in a deficit. You can drop a few pounds for the beach and you'll feel great. Plus you'll learn how to lose continuously AND keep it off...rather than a quick fix/crash diet.7 -

Whose eyes? Are you being bullied into weight loss?11 -

There is no healthy way to drop that kind of weight in a small timeframe. And people who lose a lot of weight in 20 days (unless they're like 200+lbs overweight) resort to unhealthy and unsustainable practices that always end up with weight gain after. There's no value in dropping weight fast, you lose a lot of muscle in the process, prolonged effort sets you up for a lot of short term and long term damage and often leads to binging and weight re-gain anyway. And if people here want anything for you they want you to be successful the first time. Properly.
Without knowing how much you have to lose, if the 20lbs you mention is all you have to go then set MFP to 0.5 or 1lb a week loss at most, use a food scale for everything you eat and be patient. You may lose a few pounds before your holiday. And stop comparing yourself to your sisters, all that accomplishes is creating misery.8 -
Not necessarily bullied, but you know how people are little comments and suggestions when you dont ask for them. Can really ruin my day somtimes..9

Don't give other people the power to ruin your day.
Learn to tune them out.
A lot healthier than a water fast, and a more lasting lesson.

You are believing myths. You absolutely will not lose 20 lbs in 20 days. If you had any clue how hard it is to fast with juice for 2 days you would not even be thinking about this and you could be risking your job.
Again, this should never be done for weight loss. Never.

Yeah people are turds.
Lose weight if you want to. But just do it the "right" way (literally mean the scientifically proven way) like us. There is support here.
Last year I needed to drop quite a few pounds for the beach. I started around this time was felt great by the end of June/July.3
