Correct Heart Rate

Options
Just starting exercise. When at the gym I start with 30 min on the treadmill. It asks me my target heart rate. I don't know what that is, any site you can suggest to figure that out?

I only go to the gym 3 times a week. Always start with 30 min on the treadmill, then rotate between machine and free weights every other day.

I don't know if I'm doing this right.

    I don't think that's right.

WebMD and American Cancer websites say ... 74-84 resting and 90 to 135 exercising.

I just want to narrow it down a bit.

I don't know what your target heart rate should be but 60 bpm is WAY TOO LOW for exercise!! 60 is a resting heart rate.. I would say over 100 but for each person it is different. I did a google search for target heart rate and there were several links for charts and calculators. try one of those and see what you get

    Good luck!

Edit add - The lower your resting heart rate is (in general) the stronger your heart is I know some athletes sit in the 40s and 50s I sit in the mid 60 to lower 70s

target heart rate is really based on your age and fitness level. I'm age 41, moderately fit, and my range (according to my HRM) is 117-152. Rates below 70 are really what you would call your "resting" heart rate. And if it is low, that means you are in some pretty good cardiovascular shape.

Start with the advice you get here, then just listen to your body.

I've found that for me a 165 - 175 is a pretty good cardio workout where I'm a little out of breath. If I went by what the charts say for my age I wouldn't even be able to jog.
