Cravings

Sometimes I get a craving for a certain food, but it's something that I really shouldn't be eating. I've read that sometimes when you have cravings it's better just to have a small portion of what you crave and be done with it rather than trying to resist. Then others say you should resist because giving in will just turn into more bad habits.

What do you guys think?

IF you can stop at a small portion and it fits into your goals, Go for it.

i agree.....if i crave ice cream i eat half a cup and I am happy. Now if I try and avoid it I just end up eating a bunch of random sweet stuff but never satisfied. so I say enjoy 1 portion of whatever your craving...once in a while

I think if you can just have a small amount of whatever you are craving, then do it! My issue is that I can NEVER have just a small amount of something..:( So typically, avoiding it all together is what works best for me. :) Good luck!

I guess it all depends on what works for you, If I get a craving and it's something I shouldn't be eating cause my calories are low, I litterly grab some water and start chugging while walking away! I always go by what my calorie count is that day, and wether I'll be exercising or not....good luck to ya!

I play by a slightly different rule. If I crave something that's bad for me, I try to forget it. I know that sounds terrible, but here's the catch...if after 3 days, the craving is still there, I treat myself to that craving. This has helped me avoid countless fast-food meals. While it's not really helping my weight decrease, I've passed that suggestion onto a bunch of my friends who says it works wonders for them. :)

    Portion control!
If you know you crave something on a relatively regular basis, Plan for it! build it into a meal sometime during your week.

I LOVE chocolate... I'll have a couple ounces 2 or 3 times every 2 weeks.

When you eat what ever it is you're craving, make sure to savor it... concentrate on savoring it.

Try to figure out what it is your body needs that is making it crave that food. If you're craving ice cream, you might need calcium or sugar. If you crave chips or something salty, you might need salt. If you crave something like orange juice, you might need vitamin C. And then try eating healthier options of what you're craving and give your body what it needs :)

everything in moderation is my motto when it comes to food. I have learned to never deprive myself if its something I really want. There are ways to work things into your calories for the day without going overboard.

I'm one of those people that does my own thing. If I crave it, I eat it. I'll eat it until I can't eat it no more -- not just enough to "satisfy the craving"... sure, it may blow a day to smithereens, but that's alright. I don't let the guilt get to me anymore. (Especially if chocolate is involved.) I just work harder and longer each day until the next craving hits. :)

Have it in moderation if it fits into your daily calories. I did that yesterday. I had the calories so I had a mini Nutter Butter Blizzard for dessert yesterday evening. It was wonderful and it's not like I gained 4 lbs overnight.
