Am I adding exercise correctly?

Hi, I'm now 2 weeks in to using MFP and not sure I'm adding exercise correctly. I have my fitbit adding up my steps and adjusting my kcal allowance but when it comes to running I have been entering that manually. Does everyone do the same? Or do u assume that the step allowance has taken into account that you were running rather than walking some of the steps and therefore I shouldn't add extra? E.g. today it has adjusted my kcals to give me about 600 extra for steps and then I added the 400 i burned in the run...should I just keep it to the 600 extra and only add things like swimming, yoga which aren't step orientated?? X

If you're wearing your Fitbit when running then you don't need to manually add the running. Fitbit will sort that for you. If not you could be doubling up on the burn.
Manually add exercise that isn't step related and add it via Fitbit so it again will sort the calorie burn.2 -
Great thank you...will take off the last 400kcal1

Ok i'm a bit confused now, took the 400kcal (added manually for a run) off but now my adjusted kcals has dropped to 380kcal.(from 600)..so less than my run alone nevermind the 10,000 steps I did before the run??? Also if I actually start my watch for "official" exercise (gym/run/yoga) as opposed to just wandering around my fitbit doesn't transfer this kcal expenditure over to MFP...is this right or is it supposed to add the exercise on? Sorry for all the questions i'm totally clueless!! Xx0

Your calorie adjustments from Fitbit to MFP don't distinguish between everyday movement and intentional exercise. You will just see one adjustment.1 -
Fitbit sends over your total calorie burn, including any exercise you do. It only shows your step count and the difference between what Fitbit says you burned and what MFP thinks you should have burned based on your activity level.1

So the only exercise I need to put on manually is the ones I don't wear my watch for (swimming)? X1

Fitbit will send that info if you have it(or if you are on the iphone Apple Health) connected to Myfitnesspal. If not you need to add them in the settings and it should automatically sync and show up under exercises0

@clairehardy77 Correct, the only exercise you need to log manually would be the ones when you are not wearing your Fitbit. If you log it on MFP with a linked account, MFP will send the data to Fitbit. If you log it on Fitbit manually, Fitbit will send the calorie adjustment back over to MFP but it will be lumped in with the rest of your calorie adjustment. As long as you only log it once you are good.1
