Alternate Day Fasting | Attempt #14?

I’m honestly not sure how many times I have tried ADF, but I’m gonna try again.

I think enjoying one normal day alternated with one strongly restricted day could become normal after a while. I just need to make it through the first couple weeks. They say it gets easier after that.

Wish me luck!! I’m desperate!

Because if it isn't working, just try harder? Why are you attempting to do this??

Haha! I guess I’m hoping for that whole, “fall down seven times and stand up eight,” proverb to take effect in some way.

Also I’m really struggling with just doing a consistent daily deficit and I’ve heard lots of folks swear by alternate day fasting.

I would find something else that you would actually be successful at. Obviously this isn't it.

I can't ADF. I just... can't. I want to exercise 5 days a week, and I like food to much. If you keep failing, try just regular IF. It helps me keep my calories down, plus it's easier for me to delay gratification until 3:00 pm or later than ADF.

Maybe you could start with something less drastic, like calorie cycling. Same concept: you eat lower one day, higher the next. For example, if your allowance is 1500 calories, you could do 1200 calories one day and 1800 the next. If you're struggling to keep to a consistent deficit, calorie cycling may be a good fit.

Have you considered your chosen calories may be too low?
Do you eat your exercise calories?
Do you know what foods fill you up?
Maybe the consistency of calories day in and day out is not the problem for you, maybe it's the diet itself.

What is the purpose of ADF?

I get trying to do something, failing and keeping trying if it has a purpose - eg losing weight, giving up smoking etc

But just re trying it for the sake of it ?? Why??

    You all make valid points.
ADF is supposed to be great for weight loss and even helps give better blood work results (my cholesterol is a little high so I’d like to fix that).
Still, maybe I’m kidding myself. I suck at ADF and diets in general.

@amusedmonkey you’re probably right! I’ll consider that suggestion. That’s pretty good! In fact, calorie cycling could be better than ADF, since it helps prevent one from going overboard on the “non-fast” day.

As for the composition of my diet, I’d say it’s well balanced. I just have a huge appetite. I can fit a lot of volume. Mostly I eat whole foods and all plant based. I get lots of fruits and whole grains, veggies and plenty of water. But I can eat A LOT. That’s my main issue. I just eat more than the average bear.
I’m active too. I ride my bike a fair bit.

I’ll give calorie cycling a go.

For weight loss - any method is great if you eat less than you burn.

I would concentrate on finding a sustainable method to do that rather than persevering with a method that doesn't seem a good fit for you.
