I make slow cooker steel cut oats once in awhile, but I don't usually use a recipe. Just instinct and experience.
Here's a recipe that has apples and brown sugar.

This recipe makes a huge amount (in my opinion) so I cut it in half. In my experience most recipes don't have enough liquid so I now add an extra cup. My usual ration - 1 cup of oats, 5 cups of water (or combo of water and milk if you wish). Make sure to grease the inside of the cooker! You can add just about anything like apples, raisings, walnuts. Or just make it plain and add things before you eat it.
My first try at this I followed the recipe exactly and I had a stiff pasty mess that was stuck to the inside of the cooker like glue. Subsequent tries with more liquid and greasing the pot first turned out MUCH BETTER!2 -
Thank you SO much!!!0
