Too much salt; sodium.

Salt's my culprit today. I also have a problem with low carb energy drinks; which contain a good amount of salt. I drink two 16 oz cans a day. Though in the past I would suck down two 2-liter bottles of soda a day...so it's a big change. The salt must go.....but oh my energy drinks I just can't let go :(. However, I do sit in the sauna 4 times a week for 20 minutes a pop. And that sheds the excess salt. But I'm not 100% sure exactly how much. Would anybody know how much salt the body perspires in a sauna session? Thanks.

if you'r drinking plenty of water, the salt in the energy drinks shouldn't be a problem?

I agree. I read up on a few studies about too much sodium. Some say, BAD. Though others say, no not bad, just sweat it out. But yes you're right lots of water will also excrete the excess sodium...I read that as well. Thanks for the reassurance!

The only times I look at sodium is when I feel like I am retaining more water than normal and I go back and look at my trends to see if anything can/should be adjusted to keep me more comfortable. This doesn't involve cutting back as much as not eating unusually high for 3 days straight. If you are happy and your doctor is happy don't sweat it (pun intended).

For a healthy person, salt is not that bad. It's not the cause of hypertension and heart diseases. But if you have these conditions, then salt will exacerbate them. Simply drink a lot of water to counter the salt. If you're not sweating it out, you're peeing it out, so it's not that big of a deal. Or if you really want, you could try switching to seltzer. My husband and I switched to it and it's been really good for us (both health-wise and budget-wise)
