Hello!

I'm new-ish on the website and I've been logging my calories but always seem to go over my limit... especially in SUGAR and CARBS.

But something weird I've noticed (in the last 6 months) is that when I ate soy, dairy, or anything like bread, pretzel, tortilla, I feel sick to my stomach, bloated, etc. I basically just feel like crap. I looked up some symptoms for lactose intolerance and celiac disease and it seems like i qualify for both. :/

Does anyone have either of those? Does anyone have a soy intolerance?

Also- how can I make sure I'm not going over my calorie limit? I always feel like snacking... all the time! Bread and butter and cookies are my WORST enemy!! :(

Thanks all!

I just did an elimination diet and am reintroducing foods back in. I think soy can potentially give me migraines, so I might have to cut that out, sadly. I'm still testing. I also need to test peanut butter for another symptom I was having before my elimination of these allergenic foods. :(

The best solution for not going over your calories and still snacking is being smart about what you snack on. Snack on raw veggies. They are very filling with very few calories. I find that carrots, cauliflower, cucumbers are great raw and you can add 1/4 cup or less of hummus for dipping. For dinner, I often eat a sweet potato. They are SO filling! I add some steamed broccoli and cauliflower and it's a pretty full meal for me.

I wouldn't worry about your sugar and carbs unless you are diabetic or particularly on a low carb diet. Veggies are high in "sugar" and some are high in carbs, but are probably the healthiest thing you can eat.

    Good luck!

Hi and welcome to MFP. Good for you for noticing the changes in how you feel when eating those foods. OK....where to start......I have a soy intolerance. I get very gassy, bloated and distended after eating it. Some preperations fo soy are worse. For instance, soy based food protein supplement is the worst, as is tofu........but soy milk not so much. It also depends on the quantity I consume. Soy is also naturally very high in pytoestrogens so hormonally it can kick your butt too if tryinig to lose wt. My sisters both have lactose intolerance or allergy. Their signs are mostly GI....gas, bloat, diarrhea etc......I'm OK with cheese and yogurt and sour cream. Cottage cheese too, Organic milk makes me much less congested in my head then non-organic milk. I avoid things like shakes and ice cream etc....the cream really congests me too. Supplementing with Lactaid when you eat dairy can help you digest it if it is a milk intolerance but not an allergy. This can help you rule this problem in or out. Another thing to consider and I actually think this is the most likely is that you have an overabundance of yeast in your system. This comes from high sugar consumption....usually in the form of very simple carbs like white bread, white flour, potatoes, things that contain yeast, and sugars in the food you eat. Sugar, high fructose corn syrup etc........The yeast and bacteria in your GI love this stuff and when you eat it they go nuts and produce a lot fo gas digesting the sugar out of your gut. Hence the bloating, gas, miserable feeling. Eating a very clean diet with no simple carbs, watch your sugars (even fruit) can help a lot. Also, MSG can be a problem. It's chemical structure is very much like milk. I don't know much about celiac disease so can't help you there. Lastly, the answer to how to help this is to concentrate on high levels of protein. I try to consume 140 g of protein a day. I limit my carbs to between 80-120g day. Keep the carbs clean.....no bread, pasta, rice, white potatoes etc......The protein is what keeps you from getting hungry......up it daily until you can easily go from one meal to the next without really feeling hungry. If you are hungry do a protein bar or shake and note how that makes you feel compared to if you go with a carb. JHope this helps....Good Luck!

Try an elemination diet. Its probably the easiet way to see what bothers you. Either take out everything you think is making you sick and one at a time add them back in to see what happens (and make sure to leave 3 days for a reaction) or take out one thing for a week then add it back in and see.

I can have soy and dairy, but my kids can't. My oldest will get physically sick if she has too much, but too much is like mac and cheese with a glass of milk and ice cream for dessert. If she just has a glass of milk she'll be gassy, but ok.

My middle child gets very stuffed up if she has too much dairy. A peice of pizza or scoop of ice cream and shes stuffy the next day. She had yogurt once and got diahhrea, shes never had a glass of milk. I'm sure it would make her sick.

If my son even thinks about milk he gets sick. Throwing up and diarrhea, and so miserable that you can't even look at him. I'm sure it makes him tummy hurts, he wont eat anything, but hes only 1 and can't tell me. He is also allergic to soy, it affects his poop and makes him cry and whine, so I'm sure that means tummy ache. He cannot have any dairy, even a few m&ms will get him.

As for not going over calories, definatly try and snack of veggies, like someone else said. Very filling.
