Inline skating

So apparently inline skating burns a ton of calories without stressing out your joints! I'm very very interested, but I have never done it before. The closest I've done was roller skating, and that was years ago. I'm confident that I will, given time, figure out how to get moving on them skates without falling constantly, but not so confident that I will have correct form.

(this is exactly what happened to me with swimming: never been taught, learned on my own, can swim my way out of a lake, but my form isn't great and I am very very slow as a result)

Do I need to have the right form to burn off a good amount of calories? Am I better off sticking to running and elliptical-ing?

Good question..I'd like to know too..may get me motivated to dust my skates off...My hubbie and I used to go Inline skating at a track after school hours. It's been a few years..I was showing off and fell..knocked the wind out of me...I've only done a few school skating parties with the kiddos since then...

If you have a pair, ok, but I would suggest not going out to buy a pair just to use it for exercising.

I bought two pairs over the years.. FIrst one was cheap, and the wheels sucked. They were crap.

2nd set I bought a pair of hockey inline blades. Now I've played hockey .ICE hockey for 30 years.
I thought I'd use the inline blades to workout, go for a nice skate outside.
One day I was at a park and caught myself going down a bit of a hill and I ended up gaining quite a bit of speed, onto a road, and instincts took over, I stopped how I would stop in Ice hockey.

Ummmm yah.. basically both feet slide out from underneath me and I took most of my weight on my hip. You don't slide on cement like you do on ice.
I was able to skate back to my car, My hip turned blue, black, purple and the bruise ended up about 1 foot in diameter. Luckily I didn't break anything.
I see other people inline blading, and they don't look very co-ordinated, but all it takes is that one fall to change your mind.

    Just my 2 cents

edit: Why would you want to go blading, when you can go for a walk/jog with your favorite partner in your av.

Less impact on my joints :)

Falling does sound very painful though!
