On one of my running forums a lot of people were talking about green smoothies for breakfast. It adds extra veggies to your diet, and apparently if you make it right, you can't even taste the green veggie that's in it. I would very much like to try this, just wondering if anyone has any favorite recipes. There are lots of recipes online, I know, but I want to hear personally what people like. Thanks!

I LOVE drinking a green smoothie for breakfast! Here's the recipe I'm stuck on right now:

    1 cup chopped kale
    1 cup chopped spinach
1/2 cup berries of your choice (fresh or frozen -- I'm really into frozen blueberries right now)
    1 banana
1 1/2 cups unsweetened soy/rice/almond/coconut milk (I use coconut milk for mine)

Blend until smooth -- really make sure you blend it, otherwise you'll be chewing your smoothie, I learned this the hard way!

I do juicing all the time! I have noticed that celery and ginger root both have very strong tastes. I normally pair 1-2 fruits per veggie. When using ginger root, only use a SMALL amount, like the size of your thumb nail. Today I did this:

    carrot
    celery
    kale
    ginger root

    strawberries
    nectarine
    cucumber
    apple
    grapes

I would have added more greens if I had them! Like spinach.

I have greens powder in my protein shake and I don't taste it.

    I use
    1/2cup - 1 cup chocolate soy milk
    1 scoop chocolate protein powder
    1/2 banana
    couple strawberries.
1 scoop of greens powder. (Progressive Vege greens)

edit: found this on internet in case someone wasn't aware.

I LOVE my green smoothie every morning!

    1 cup spinach
    1 banana
    1T peanut butter
    5 ice cubes

You really can't taste the spinach. Tastes like banana/pb, I promise. Even my 3 year old begs for them each day!! :-)

Thanks so much! I very much appreciate the tip about celery and I know very well about the powerful taste of ginger. A little really does go a long way with that stuff. One more week of low carbing and then I'm going to try these recipes!

i don't use a specific recipe, but the amounts of things stay the same.

    1/2 cup yogurt
1 cup liquid, such as almond milk, fruit juice, or soy milk.
1 serving of frozen fruit, whatever the bag says is one serving. i like blueberries the best
1/2 cup frozen spinach. if you can find it, the europes best chefs spinach nuggets are great, each one equals about a 1/4cup of spinach.
    1/4tsp cinnamon for flavour
i also sometimes add 1 tbsp of a hemp fiber powder, or 1 tbsp of ground flax. depends on my mood :P

whirl it all up in a blender, you may have to add a little water to thin it out a little as the frozen fruit and spinach can make it a little too thick.
the colour is yucky, blueberries and spinach make a grey/brown colour! but the taste is great.

This sounds like it would be an especially good long run recovery drink, thanks!

I also use a "green" super fruits/super veggies mix, I ve noticed when i pair it with Coconut water and frozen or fresh mango it tastes the best. If mango doesnt work in your diet, i ve noticed that peaches, pineapple and strawberry work as well. For me though the mango is just my fave and the coconut water doesnt just work as a "liquid" it actually adds health benefits to the shake.

Thanks for posting the ingredients for the greens powder. Unfortunately I can't have it as it's not gluten free.

Anyone interested in joining me on a 3 day green smoothie challenge. I think it will be fun and invigorating to your health. It starts August 15 and is free. She sends out e-mails daily with recipes, ideas, and motivation. This is the letter I got in my in-box. (this is a quote) I just came back from a week of miracles. I kid you not. After 7 days of witnessing the consumption of copious amounts of leafy greens, fruits and vegetables, I watched nearly 40 people turn their lives and their health around so dramatically that science would call it "miracles." Three people reserved their diabetes, and reduced or came completely off their insulin after decades of illness. Another dramatically reduced her thyroid medication. One released gall stones that had been troubling her for years! And I made a new best friend forever who is telling cancer who's boss and having a fabulous time doing it! It was a powerful weekend, and the miracle workers amongst us were none other than the power of green smoothies, love, hope and friendship. And in light of this, I am delighted to announce that we're bringing all these things together in the name of a spinach-scented celebration on August 15th: http://www.therawdivas.com/free3 August 15th is International Green Smoothie Day!! You, and your mom, your cousin, and even your Great Aunt Helga on your father's side, your neighbor, the church choir lady, and even the church mouse! are all invited to attend this FR.EE 3-Day Green Smoothie Challenge in honor of International Green Smoothie Day on August 15th!!
