It just needs to be a habit. Also, doing it before I eat (some people pre-log the whole day, I usually log while I’m cooking) makes it easier because then I can decide if I’m going to have a roll with dinner or not. Will there be butter on it or not, etc. Just make it part of your routine. “I’m hungry, let me log what I’m about to eat”

I sometimes give myself rewards for logging for a month straight.

I also prelog a lot of my meals, as it helps me make informed decisions thoughout the day.

    Don’t not do it.

Your body will log it whether you do or not. The first time I had to suck it up and track a mistake I suddenly heard my 4th grade teacher “You’re only cheating yourself.” You really want to lose weight, keep your diary no matter what.

    But there are problems.

Forgetting. Go back and fill it in as best you can. Try to get everything recorded and put a good faith number on it.

Don’t know how many calories were in that dish.
Use the generic numbers or find something to compare it to. Try to be consistent in your method. If all else fails, make a good faith guess.

There’s a calorie counting learning curve. Give yourself time. It gets easier.

In the words of Mr. Phil Knight, just do it. Eventually it will become a habit.

I started looking at it like a challenge. I’m pretty competitive so my friend showed me macros. My goal is 40%carb 40% protein and 20% fat, and with that in mind I just make it a game to try to beat those goals with whatever I’m eating. Of course I stick with the calories I’m allotted but the macros is what I like. Also, find what you like and stick with it. It doesn’t get boring if you actually like eating it. That makes it easier for me to log since it’s already under “recent”. Lastly, make sure to utilize the “easy add” meals function that lets you copy from the day before, and I scan whatever I can too. Hope this helps!

My best has been to prelog my whole day, each day. Sometimes that can be challenging if I’m going to be eating out and unsure of what I’m having, so I log as soon as I’ve ordered on those occasions, or straight after eating, so I don’t forget.
Prelogging has totally helped me stay on track though.

You have to want to do it. Why don't you want to do it? Is it boring? Make it into a game. Does it take too much time? Figure out how to make it simpler. Is it the idea that you're restricting yourself? Counting calories is the way to circumvent that - you get to make priorites - yes, you have to eat less, but you decide where to cut. Do you honestly forget? Couple logging and eating. Nothing goes into your mouth until it has been on the scale. All that said, the point of logging is to consistently eat less. If you prefer other methods to eat less, do not hesitate to use them instead.

I often do my logging while my commute (mass transit, do not do this if you drive a car). When I get home from work/library I log my lunch and any snacks I had, in the morning I log the previous evening, and breakfast. Additionally, I often log immediately when I'm cooking, as it gets pretty impossible to remember what I threw into the pot the previous night. If I know exactly what I'm eating later in the day or the next day, I log that beforehand. It's helpful even if I only know some meals, it gives an idea of how much I have for the rest.

eating same food 2 or 3 times a day makes it easier to know how much you re eating without too much calculation .
