Genetics

How much of a role does genetics play in your weight loss? Is it possible your genetics will only let you lose a certain amount of weight in certain body parts? I have inherited my mother's thicc thighs and lower belly pouch, and these are of course what I want to get rid of. However, I've come to understand that genetics is what helps makes our body composition and I was wondering how much it impacts you when trying to lose weight/bulk/etc

Most likely those will be the last places you really lose from2

you might gain first/lose last in the same places as family members - which is why family members can get the same "shape" when they are all overweight. But, no, genetics is not going to keep you overweight or stop you from losing. All of us have the spots we lose from first, for me it's my stomach - last place I lose weight is my face.1
