Hi ... and “woo”?

Newbie to the app here, using it 12 days and it’s super helpful.
Just started reading through the discussions and there is one where people comment on the rudeness of hitting the “woo” button...and someone else says that their first weeks on the app they thought it meant “Wooo- hooo.”
It doesn’t mean “woo hooo, you go, great job?”
Ummm.. then what does it mean?
Sorry if I’ve missed where to find this out...

People use it in two ways. It has a negative meaning (like claims without a solid scientific foundation, bad advice) and a positive one.1

Thanks. So also like “whoa” that doesn’t sound right....0

The official definition is "too good to be true," which comes from shortening woo-woo: https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=woo-woo
A lot of people either don't know there's an official MFP definition (it's buried at the top of the News & Announcements forum) or don't care, so it tends to get used in a variety of ways.2 -

Oh, I forgot to mention - If you haven't found them yet, at the top of each forum section (Getting Started, General Diet, etc) there's a post titled something like "Most Helpful Posts (must reads)." Those have a lot of great guides and getting started posts in them, including a handy terms and acronyms guide: http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/1069278/acronyms-and-terms-for-new-mfp-members-v-6/p1 Some of them are pretty ancient, but you might find it useful :flowerforyou:2
