Starting over again (again)!

Hi all. I’m a 38 yr old single mom, nurse, and bartender. Im going to be blatantly honest here in hopes to get support and help support those that may be in similar situations. I’m trying to get back into working out after a few years on falling off the wagon in a HUGE way. I’ve been through hell and back th last few years and turned to alcohol as a means to cope ( I am not excusing the behavior what so ever, just stating a fact.) At one point it severely affected my ability to be a parent, my job, every aspect of my life. I’ve made slow progression over time, but enough is enough and I need to be in a better place for myself, my kids, and my family. Before my downfall o was huge into working out, would spend most free weekends traveling the country doing OCR’s and I was fit, confident, and happy. I am ready to get that back. Good luck to everyone on their journey!!

Hi there! I'm sorry to hear you've had a tough go of it lately. But it really sounds like you're ready for a change, which is great!
Question: with alcohol being a part of the problem, impairing your ability to be a parent, your job, etc for a time, could maybe dropping your bartending job help make your positive changes stick?
Wish you lots of success on your journey *hugs*0 -
It’s actually been helpful. It’s a newer endeavor just through the tourist season to pay some things off. It’s opening my eyes to what I may have looked like on the opposite side of the bar and really helped me realize I do much better on the serving side. And I’m starting to be repulsed by even the smell of beer and alcohol. But yes, if at any moment I felt it was a hinderence, I will leave it immediately. It’s just a job to play catch up through the summer. It doesn’t pay the bills and is so not worth the time and effort I’m putting in to be better!!2

I would never have lost weight while drinking alcohol. There are quite a few folks here on MFP who never drink or like me, rarely do.
Much easier to stay on track without the mental disturbance or extra calories. Or the waste of time.

That’s exactly where I’m at. Why waste the mental focus and the calories. And working behind a busy bar on Friday and Saturday nights is quite the exercise!0

Good Luck, hope to see you on the fit side....I was an avid fitness buff and fell off too, it is tough getting back but I can tell you that as you do, and see what you are still capable of, it really motivates you....Remember it is a mindset and you control it!!0

I know how you feel. I had stopped drinking for a year, lost 50lbs, would run several miles everyday. All I have are excuses for why I started drinking again, eating copious amounts of food, and stopped exercising.
I’ve returned to MFP to hold myself accountable once again. I’m on a 15 day streak, and I haven’t had a sip of alcohol and feeling great again. Started the exercise slow and looking forward to dropping the 50lbs I’ve gained...again.1 -
