"accurate calorie count"

I've noticed when using MFP on the web (not on the mobile app), an asterisk appears next to the calorie count for a lot of foods in the food diary. When hovered over, this number changes - usually to a bigger number. For alcohol, this number is often zero until hovered on.

At the top of the nutrition table, it says '*accurate calorie count' but nothing more.

Can anyone explain what this is?

Sometimes there is a huge difference between the two numbers for my daily totals. I'd like to know which number is correct.

I have been using the MFP web version for over five years and have no clue on what you are seeing. I have never seen that.

Me either. I love the app on my iPhone.....so easy just to scan a food item and change serving size/ounces/grams. This MFP is really something; super easy now. B)

Same question! This is the first time I've noticed it on web.

I double checked, none of my foods has an asterisk. Now I'm curious.

ETA: I tried to add a non-confirmed food to see if that does something, and not, still no asterisk.

I'm curious too but think I found the answer, the asterisk was used but it has been replaced with a green tick icon to denote verified entries.
    MFP info page:
"We have retired the asterisk (*) previously used on the MyFitnessPal website to note food listings created by MyFitnessPal users."

I only see this if I'm searching for an entry, it does not appear in my diary of what I've logged, unless I click on an entry.

Is that what the OP was referring to?

The asterisk in the database list has been gone for a long time - and had nothing to do with fluctuating calories. Are you saying you're seeing it still in the database of foods? I haven't seen it for years. Weird. I've never seen a "hover" feature or "accurate calorie count" stated (?) Is she talking about the FOOD (often called the food diary) page, the Nutrition box or the database? I'm confused.

OP - can you do a screen capture of the two differences you see?

The post is from last month. Hopefully the OP figured it out.

You are most likely correct and I got it wrong, thank you for pointing it out and if the OP were to read my post be more confused - thank you.
