how do you know Which weight is correct? So I experimented with my scale weighed at 6 different spots 3 were close in weight 118-120 and the other 3 were close to 123-125 ... I estimated yesterday at 124.4 because I have NO clue which to go by ...

  • Is your scale on carpet? That can make it difficult to get repeatable readings. Putting it in an uncarpeted spot should make it as consistent as it can be. If it's still giving you problems with repeatability then you might need a better scale.

I would pick one spot and always leave it in that spot. Any fluctuations in your floor will cause fluctuations in your scale.

Always weigh in the same spot -- and while it may not accurate for whatever reason, at least it would be consistent. :)

TOSS THE SCALE. seriously. start measuring yourself. the scale does not give a COMPLETE range of your loss. Obsessing over your numbers is no way to go (trust me been there). Be well!

Next time you go to the Dr. or the kids go. Weigh yourself and then come home and weigh yourself. Add or subtract the difference.
Mine is 4 lbs light so everytime I weigh myself I add 4 lbs.
  • my bathroom floor is on a bit of a slant and i notice it I put it on the bottom end of the slant, I weigh more than I would at the top of the slant.

I lost half a stone by moving from the bedroom carpet to the bathroom tiles. That was a good day for me

Your batteries in the scale may be running low. It will start acting weird on you.

While I completely agree with this statement, You NEED to know where youve started so that you can see how far youve come. If shes not getting an accurate reading to begin with she may be setting herself up for failure. Example: She weighs self at home and logs it at 118lbs. Watches what she eats and gets plenty of exercise and drops a few lbs to 114lbs. She is excited for her loss! Then she has a DR appt and is told her weight is 120lbs. That would definately discourage me.

You need to know where youve started, but dont obsess over the number on the scale!

I bought a new scale; mine was old and had been through a lot. My new scale............ weighs me 6 lbs heavier. So, I'm still working it out in my head how I'm going to report my "loss" because it won't LOOK like a loss if I go by the new scale numbers.
  • New Scale, new batteries, and non carpet - Plus same time well within moving the scale from spot to spot

Plus cant leave the scale out just sitting around even in bathroom WAY to much traffic in my house I put it up so non of the kids will throw it , toss it or break it. ( life with 6 kids)

you can test your scale with a known weight.

A 5 lb bag or flour, any hand weights you have, etc.

Tile or solid floor will give you a more accurate weight, then carpet, as others have noted.
