Is it too early to change things?

My stats are age 24, height 5’ 4” and weight is 153lbs. So I’m 22 days or about 3 weeks into my diet. I’ve been counting all the calories I’ve been consuming as accurately as I can. I haven’t lost a single pound. Then I checked and my period is starting this week. Is it possible that the PMS is masking my weight loss? I’m even happy losing 0.8lbs a week. Is it too early to reduce my calories again?

Not gonna lie, i do feel slightly disappointed but I want to know if it’s too early to see any changes?

Yes, TOM means a spike on the scales for the majority of us. I can fluctuate up to 3lbs, others even more so.
3 weeks into your diet is too early to say if its working, keep going and reassess in another few weeks. There are so many reasons for the scale not to show a loss.

Yes, it is most likely your period masking it.

Still, it is a bit unusual not to lose anything at all in your first weeks. Are you using a digital scale for yor food?

We are the same height and I started out about where you are. How many calories are you eating? Are you getting on the scale every day or whenever you feel like it?

Common wisdom says stick with a diet 4-6 weeks before tweaking it.

Yes I weigh all my food except for when I was away at my grandmas house for bank holidays weekend and going out to a restaurant then I just have to guesstimate.

Okay I guess I’ll keep going.

I’m eating 1700x7=11900 calories for the week. So on average that’s 1700 but because I get hungry I eat more on exercise days and less on active rest days. This week I did go over my calories and I ate a total of 13048 calories. Still that’s gives me an average of 1864 calories which means I’m still in a deficit. Do you think this week or overeating (due to pms hunger and grandmas house) hindered my progress?

No, you still had a deficit and its common to eat more around TOM, 1700 sounds good to me, I'm a bit smaller at 5ft 2 and would lose 0.5lb a week eating at that amount, it sounds like we are similar for activity too. So my advice would be keep doing what you're doing and reassess in another 3 or 4 weeks.

Keep going with it. TOM is definitely contributing to the stagnation.

I was in a similar boat in January when I started losing again. I was in a clear 500 cal deficit for the first month (1200 cals per day, everything weighted with the scale and logged). I just checked my weigh-in reports and can tell you that between the 4th of January and the 2nd of February, I did not lose anything except my mind. Then it started going down easily, all while increasing intake to 1350 and then 1450 cals. I'm no expert, but maybe it just... takes a while for you as well?

Nah, your intake sounds good. Give it a few more weeks, drink plenty of water, keep up the exercise, etc. etc. etc. Sounds like you've got this.

Edit: I'm currently eating an average of around 1650 per day, lost nearly 6kg since January.

Yes I don’t mind losing 0.5lbs-0.8lbs a week as I only have 24lbs to lose. I exercise 5 times a week and I try to walk 4-5 times a week for 45 mins-60 mins. Fingers crossed I get through this tough part...

Thanks for letting me know I’m not the only one! I’ll keep going and maybe I’ll have a whooshing effect?
