I have a sit down job so it hard for me to do any exercise for the 8 to 9 hours that i am at work I was wondering if "leg swings" count as an exercise. I sit in a high chair and move my legs back and forth until i feel "the burn" lol

You could count it. But it will be hard to determine the amount of calories that you burn unless you have a heart rate monitor. I would just try to do it at least 2 or 3 times during the day. Something is better than nothing at all.0

Yes, absolutely!0

Get up every 15-20 minutes and do some sort of exercise for 5 minutes. You have to get up at some point
P.S. It's okay, I asked if lifting my 15lb cat counted as strength exercise.0 -
What I do is laps around the office, and I might look like a dummy, but I don't care! haha I just walk around and around:)0

it counts, but dont eat it back. its good for your muscles and to get the blood flowing, but you wont burn a significant amount of calories that way.0

Can you buy a heart rate monitor?0 -
Any kind of movement is good! But no, I wouldn't try to count it as exercise calories.0

Maybe if you get a couple breaks you could use one to walk? Even if it's just around the building a few times.0

YES! Keep moving that body...
You can also take the stairs instead of the elevator
Go on a walk during your lunch time
Park your car further away
Go up and down stairs during your breaks0 -

I do get up every once in a while of course, I am a bank teller so I have to walk to the drive thru.
did you cat count for you lol0 -
Well...maybe, but try not to count it as too much, you don't want to put yourself over your calorie goal without knowing. I also have a desk job, so I go for a walk everyday at lunch time. You can also try parking in the furthest spot from your building, and taking the stairs whenever possible. All the little things add up0

how many reps of cat lifting? '-)0

It'll probably burn some calories but not a whole lot. I would suggest the same as some others have...take 2 or 3 breaks throughout the day for 5-10 minutes and walk around (outside or inside) or walk up and down the stairs. Grab a friend - everyone needs a break!0

I have an 8-5 desk job and felt so lazy. I bought this and just stuck it right under my desk. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000VICRO8
It's amazing. So quiet and no one knows I'm even using it. I just got it today and after 5 minutes of doing it, my heart rate was 125 bpm.0 -

If I had staris, but it just a single story buliding, instead of my driving to go get my lunch or something to drink I walk to it and I have now been parking my car further away at all places i go.
Thank you for the advice!0 -
It couts but don't log it. That would be like strength training but burn less calories. You could get a bike pedal thingey to put under your desk...Just a thought!0

sure...you should get an hrm.0

I like the bike pedal idea.. I might get one of those. I think I saw one a long time ago at Sports Authority...0

that looks like fun!0 -
Any movement you can get if you have a sit down job is good! I bounce (probably drives my coworkers crazy), take frequent trips to get water, and stand to read emails just to get off my butt!

Depends on what brand you get. I got my Polar FT4 for about $60 and it's perfect for me. Just make sure you get one with a chest strap. Look some up online and read reviews before buy one. Amazon is a good place for that.0 -

ok thank you so much!0 -
Yes it counts it burns 2 calories per leg lift . I watched a show that showed you to do that when you are sitting at a desk all day and yes it does count and it tones your legs but you do need to sit up straight and hold your tummy in as well it will tone it too.0
