I'm helping my neighbor with his garden beds and am curious about what the plant in the foreground is. All he can tell me is that it is a climber.

(I planted the morning glory and Siberian iris myself.)
TIA

Ya, not clematis. I looked up Mandevilla foliage and it doesn't look like that either.
He thinks it has white flowers, but he is such a non-gardener that he wasn't sure.0 -

Silver lace vine? It needs support and you did mention white flowers.
Are the leaves waxy?0 -
My guess is a sweet pea. They come in all sorts of colors. My grandmother used to have them growing on a trellis on her front porch.0

Hey, I think you clematis guessers were right. I have a spring clematis and the leaves don't look like that, so I had ruled it out. However, I was at a garden center Sunday and they had a similar vine growing wildish and the guy said it was a fall clematis, and that the foliage is different. Also, the leaves have changed shape now that it is bigger.
I guess I'll know for sure when it flowers!
