Whats the effect of junk food on body fat even if you're in a deficit?

This was something I never considered. I'll admit I never ate 100% clean, probably about 70/30, However I did factor in them peanut butter cups, take aways, Pringles or whatever other junk I ate, I remained in a deficit and lost weight however my body fat remained high.

Is it really important to eat 100% clean if you want to drop bodyfat?

There’s no importance to eating clean, especially because clean is a very subjective term. Eating those items is fine, but you likely won’t be getting the nutrients you need. And if your body fat is still high, that means you’ve been lacking adequate protein and not doing much to maintain your muscle mass.

Thanks for the replies folks. It pretty much sums up what I thought but I heard this mentioned today on a podcast and doubted myself.

You don't get bonus points for eating extra healthy. Unless you're a serious competitive althete, eating mostly healthy with snacks in moderation is just fine.

There is more to eating than the goal of weight loss.

From a purely physical standpoint it is turned into energy along with the rest of the food you have eaten and if there is enough energy it moderates your weight loss so you lose at a healthy rate.
