Hi all,

I've got my half marathon on 28th Aug. I've been following Hal Higdon's half marathon training guide. Today I ran 9 miles (14.5 kms) and have no idea how I'm going to get myself through 13 miles. It's not a physical issue - my body is fit and I can run. It's all in my head. The whole way is a battle. I'm struggling to focus on the running, I'm not getting my endorphine kick that I'm used too and the whole time I am thinking 'oh god, there s still so far to go'.

I have motivating songs on my ipod but even that has stopped working. I still have 5 training runs to get through, inc 10 miles next weekend!!

HELP! How can I get in the right headspace??

Thanks xxx

Every runner has that "I really don't want to do this" feeling prior to a run. Training is really hard, even for pros. But just think about how great you'll feel when you cross that finish line! Focus on the rewards, not the trials.

Can you find another runner who is preparing for the same race? When I was newer to distance running, meeting a run club for weekend long runs was the only thing that kept me moving - because we all motivated each other. Eventually you can do it on your own, but as you said it is a mental block, not a physical one!
