Hitting the plateau

Hi guys,
I've been on MFP for over six months now and have lost nearly 80lb after being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and was told by the doc to lose weight or die!!! I am now coming up to 210 consecutive days of logging.
I've reached the plateau and I'm struggling! No weight loss for the last four weeks. I've tried upping my calories, lowering them, increasing exercise, different exercise but nothing is working.
I'm after some more friends to help me along so please add me and if you can spare any words of encouragement, I will do the same.
Thanks in advance.
Brian

Plateau's ... a funny thing
I have had 2 plateau's since I began in May. Right now I am on my second plateau. I have raised my calories, lowered them, included more exercise, but nothing is working. I have just decided not to take the scale so seriously and just keep on doing the good things and I am sure something is bound to happen. (like 1/2 of my body weight falling off of me overnight *smiles*)
Just hang on in there and keep doing what you are doing. Also, I have read many times that wearing a weight vest can help break through a plateau. I don't know if this actually works, I haven't tried it.0 -
I have no science behind this theory but ...
Watching my husband attempt to lose wight and manage the insulin and meds lets me know that you have just achieved a phenomenal weight loss under adverse body conditions. I am wondering whether it is natural for your body to want to plateau after a significant weight loss of 80 pounds in six months. Maybe your body needs to stabalize after an intense period of weight loss and medication management. Maybe it is worth practicing "maintenance" for three to six months and concentrate on strengthening some of the good habits you have already adopted. I have been slowly losing weight over the past five years. It seems like about every six months my body needs time to maintain and stabalize.
Like I said above there is no science behind my speculation just a little personal experience. I imagine you have access to a nutritionist/dietician as part of your diabetes control. You might want to ask her if it is okay to go into maintenance mode for a while.
Meanwhile contrats on taking as much control as possible of your diabetes through weight loss!0 -
I got over my plateau by eliminating anything made with any kind of flour. My good carbs come from whole grains like wheat berries, quinoa, brown/wild rice, fruit & veggies, mostly fruit & veggies though. Hope this helps.0

I was on a plateau for 6 long, grueling weeks. What helped was focusing on ALL my nutrients. Fat, carbs, protein, fiber, sodium. Making sure I stayed within those while still eating enough calories.
I have a friend who's insulin resistant. She had to lower her carbs a bit, to about 100g a day. Perhaps tweak your fat/carb/protein ratios and focus on the foods you're eating and staying within those limits. Maybe tracking just calories isn't enough.0 -
I forgot one suggestion in my previous post.
I can't keep track of all the med names, but there is a slow acting insulin that my husband takes once a day in addition to the carb based insulin at meals and all the other stuff. When he switched to taking it in the morning instead of the evening, the weight started coming off again after a long plateau.0 -
When I hit a plateau, I viewed my SODIUM intake...I was way over the alloted count. Look at your sodium levels, and try to stay below 2500 mg. Once I did that, within a week, my weight started dropping again! Try it, maybe it will help you! )0
