I am 68, walk dogs and other duties at my animal shelter 5 days a week. Anywhere from 13,000 steps,to 20,000 a day. I'm exhausted, don't eat as,healthy as I should. I take B12 vitamin, Bee Pollen, multi vitamin. Any suggestions?

I think you just answered your question. Get your diet in check, make sure you are drinking enough water and gettng 8+ hours of sleep. See if that helps.7 -
All of the above - eat a good variety of protein and veggies and you will need to use less supplements too. Well done for helping at the animal shelter too.2

Are you at a healthy weight or losing weight?
Are you eating enough calories to fuel your activity?
Did you recently increase your activity level?
Are you tracking your food intake? Are you getting the suggested amount of protein, carbohydrates, fats?
Do you get enough sleep? Do you wake a lot during the night? Maybe have a sleep study done.
Have you been stressed out, anxious or depressed?
Have you had a medical checkup? Do you have a medical condition? Do you take any medications that might have side effects?

^This for advice and thanks for the shelter volunteer work.
If you like fish it is a good source of protein and things like Salmon have a good supply of Vitamin D and B Complex. I would much rather get my nutrients from food first and then pills if a backup is needed.

A good place for you to start is indeed your diet, as you have already identified that as an issue. Certain foods and types of foods make me tired. One of them is wheat flour. (Bread made from sprouted wheat is ok for me.)
I also get crippling fatigue when my anemia is not being treated properly. There are other deficiencies, like vitamin D and iodine, that can cause fatigue as well. Might want to discuss getting some tests with your doctor. Look into any thyroid issues as well.
Yay for you for volunteering and walking!2 -
Are you taking b12 by injection or pill? The pills didn't help me at all but the injection does. I went from my b12 being 190 (for a long time) and 3 months later I am now at 5011

The pills only help if the problem in the absorption isn't in the stomach (b12 has to combine with the intrinsic factor. If the stomach isn't acid enough or the cells which produce the intrinsic factor are damaged, it's not going to happen.). The B12 then gets absorbed in the very last section of the small intestines. So if for some reason there's damage there, it won't get absorbed as well as it should (or not at all).
The inject avoids all those possible problems by going directly into the blood. No intrinsic factor necessary. No working stomach/intestine cells necessary. No chance of having the bioavailabiliy (how much/how well it is absorbed) reduced.0 -
How many calories is the OP eating?2

There could be many reasons for this. Depending on how long you've been feeling like this, I'd do what everyone is suggesting maybe for a couple of weeks, if there's no improvement see your Doctor.
I used to get sleepy every afternoon no matter what I did, what I ate. I am low in iron, but had that under control. It turned out it was my medication I was taking in the morning made me sleepy in the afternoon. I started taking it in an evening and now I'm hardly ever sleepy in the pm. So if this hasn't been going on for a long time already, try improving your diet, nutrition etc, consider any medication you're on, sleep etc and see if you improve.2 -
Because I’m insulin resistant, too much sugar exhausts me! That discovery changed my life. Fruit doesn’t really bother me, but processed sugar does!1

Please don't take this the wrong way, but just as a precaution, go have a check up. My mom and my uncle are about your age and fatigue was the first sign of serious heart problems. They didn't think anything was really wrong, but each ended up having surgery after a routine check up.3

My husband was feeding tired during the day and it turned out he has sleep apnea. It could be anything, really, best bet is to talk yo your doctor. Hope you get it sorted out.2
