Two Takeaways from Early Success

Today marks 8 months since I started on this journey... and the key takeaways for me so far have been two-fold:

* Celebrate your success.

* Using the word ONLY is a demotivator


October 2017 had me topping the scale at 265 pounds, and for a 5' 10" guy who is pushing a half century in age, that was absolutely not ideal! I had reached a point where I no longer wanted to sit in a booth at a table, for I would either barely fit or had to push the table away from me. And my shirt size... it was about to bolt to the triple xl.

Fate grabbed me by the hand one afternoon after having an eye-exam, and instead of heading to my car after leaving the doctor, I literally turned 180 degrees and walked to a nearby gym and asked for a tour. I was embarassed, even in front of strangers, to look how I did, so imagine my trepidation at going to a gym.

I didn't set a target weight... instead, I created a vision that included a slow and steady progression toward a healthy me.

Now, eight months in, I've lost 32 pounds.

ONLY 4 pounds per month. ONLY 1 pound per week.


If, on that 6th day of October, I had thought I would ONLY lose 4 pounds per month (from that starting weight), I would have said "Forget it!" as it wouldn't seem worth it.

Yet, here I am, two heavy bowling balls of body weight having disappeared into thin air. And I couldn't be more pleased.

So now I celebrate my accomplishment to date, and have banished ONLY when describing my successes.
