So I noticed that when I follow my diet and stay under my cals of 1400 I am no fun to be around. I mean I am so down in the dumps and short with the people around me. I'm usually not like that at all. Has anyone else delt with this? Is there anything I can do to help it like eat more of something or less of something else?

Make sure your calories include as much protein and fiber as possible so you're not as hungry. It's no fun being grumpy all the time, and it will be a hindrance to you making this a lifestyle rather than a diet.

Hm...well, for one, if you're hungry, eat! If your body is telling you something, you have to listen. As long as you're under or at your calorie limit, you're good. And even if you go over, it's one day, it won't set you back. Other than that, try eating protein. It might be you're not getting enough so you don't have energy, then you get grumpy. I have that problem sometimes. I hope I helped a little.

If you're that "moody", you may need to adjust your ratio of carbs/protein/fat to a setting that feels more satisfying.

Also, is 1400 calories enough for you? Perhaps you need a little more calories for your body. That kind of moodiness is usually your body telling you it's not getting enough of something.

This can also be a sign of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). If you havent had it checked, you should.

Other symptoms could include dizzyness and the shakes.

I have hypoglycemia as well. I have to eat every 2.5 hours, or I get grumpy too. Many doctors don't believe it exists or diagnose it incorrectly. Here is a quiz if you'd like to see if you might fall into this category.

I also agree with others.....LOTS or protein!

I found myself like this too! I had to reassess my eating, I was eating under my calories, but it was a bunch of empty calories. I have given up things like juice (Can have vitamins, true, but goes no where for that "full" feeling) and really watching my condiments and sauces, as thats where a lot of calories can come from. I make sure I'm getting lots of good protein filled things, good lean meats and low fat/ cal dairy. That has made a huge difference. Also, whole grains are wonderful fillers, either bread or pasta or rice, a little bit goes a long way I find. So much more filling than their white counterparts. Also, bulk up on veggies, you can eat way more substance that way without taking in a lot of calories, I made a chicken stir fry today, it was about 90% veg, but in my mind it was still chicken with veggies as oppose to veggies with chicken. The amount of food makes more of a difference to me than the calorie count in making me grumpy. Since I've kicked myself in the butt and made the changes, I find I'm a lot happier, and actually have a lot more energy, way more than when I'm not following MFP. My husband tells me I'm nicer lately :) Good luck!

I agree that you should eat more calories if you're hungry. I eat 1,620 a day (unless I exercise, in which case I eat my calories back) and I'm not hungry. Protein is a good filler - maybe you're not eating enough protein, like someone else mentioned.

I turn into a mega***** when I'm hungry, but there's no reason you should be depriving yourself of food - hunger is your body telling you to eat more! ;)
