Yes...it's another post on Zumba.
I do not have a HRM....*gasps from the crowd* which I know on MFP is a sin against God. But for those who can forgive me, I am looking for someone who does Zumba with a HRM. Someone around 5'0 to 5'5 anywhere from 170 to 220 would be great. And a little background on the type of Zumba you are doing, the length of the class and how long you have been participating in Zumba. I am working in a HIGH intensity class....I mean your getting down on the ground push up style for a song or two. Normally, when I stand back up there is a puddle of sweat so bad on the gym floor I have to wipe it up before the next song starts otherwise I might slip and fall on my *kitten*...lol
I'm just trying to find someone who is teaching or participating at the same pace. I have been to several different types of Zumba classes and I can see why there is such a great range of calories.
Thanks so much in advance and keep shakin it

Everyone is going to be different. You're really not doing yourself any good by estimating based on someone else.
I got my HRM on amazon for $70. But there are cheaper or more expensive options.0 -

You're welcome. It's as useful as you asking for calories burned from someone ranging 50lbs and a 5" difference in height.0 -

I got mine off ebay from china for 7$

Try this calculator http://www.zumbacalories.com/ I put your weight and it gives me 688 c. I saw people's monitors in class that burn about 500-700 per class.0

I'm 5'9 and 170 pounds...I have a Polar FT4 and in Zumba I burn a little over 500 calories in 60 minutes. I am working pretty hard, but nothing like puddles of sweat on the floor and push-ups.0

Wow, a little testy today, aren't we??? He actually gave you great advice. My friend Mendy and I did a Zumba class together. We are the same height, she weighs slightly less than me (less than 10 pounds difference). We both have HRMs. I burned close to 500 calories...and burned much more, near 700.
Basing off of other people is not the best idea because you are not the same fitness levels, even if you are close in height and weight.0 -
I am 5'3, CW 192.8, zumba class is an hour long, I have a CVS brand HRM. My class is pretty intense but I certainly am not doing push ups.
In a class depending on the instructor and how much I put myself into it I burn 700-980 cals
Yes each person is going to be diffferent. Zumbacalories.com for my weight and at a mid intensity it only says 686. Even on high intensity it is 777. It all depends on the person and their specific intensity level. You can't just classify as it as low/med/high.
Advice is to get a HRM so you know your exact number of calories burned during each of your zumba classes.0 -
i think zumba is a difficult one to gauge. I used to base it on my instructors burn- she is same height , frame and weight as me, However i used to half her burn! so say she used to burn 1000-1200 per class- i used to log it as 500 calories! before this i used to use mfp and state aerobics high intensity but it was under estimating it by a good 150-200 cals
I have now got a hrm (polar f6 with strap) which gives me a more accurate burn. I average 120-122lbs, hour long class intense workout and burn from 550-675 cals per class! So getting an accurate count by using someone else's burn can be tricky!0 -
I stated zumba about 2 months ago, its a 1hr class and it would be high intensity. I weigh 215lbs and i'm 5.4. Crrently i'm burning around 650 cals per class.0

I just got a HRM this week and found that zumbacalories.com far overestimated calories burned for me.0
-
I am 5'6" and weight 174 pounds. I've been doing Zumba for a year and a half now, but haven't gotten a HRM until 6 months ago. I take an hour long class and it is intense. My instructor tends to do some intense plyometrics during some songs. I burn from about 700-900 calories depending on how much energy I feel to do in class.0

Not really....I just asked a very specific question and would like answers that are just that. I think his advice is right on target for someone looking for a price and place to get a HRM. I am aware a HRM is going to be the best option which if you read my orginal post....it kinda gives you that impression hence the first line "I do not have a HRM." But thank you for the information.0 -
i took the lowest amount that was estimated on some other sites and added that. Basically 20 minutes and 200 calories is the lowest and I do a pretty high intensity rumba on my Wii0

Hey There! I am 5'4" and currently weigh 178 pounds. I've been doing Zumba since mid June. I use a Polar FT4. As a side note, I got mine for $80 at Sears and took advantage of their layaway program since I am financially challenged :frown: . Anyway, my class is very intense as I always drenched with sweat when I leave. We don't do any floor excercises such as pushups however - - thank goodness. On average the class runs for an hour. Calories burned depends on the songs/routines the instructor selects, my effort and how long of a break we have between song selections. My lowest burn was approximately 440 cals while my highest burn was 680 or so. Good luck girl and keep shakin it!!0
