Weight gain after graduating, feeling very sad

I'm scared to post this, but im not sure what else to do. I gained 40lbs while in school, and i feel awful. I worked so hard to keep fit and healthy, and gained it all back plus more...now it's all i think about. I'm at a crossroads whether to start the Fast Metabolism Diet, which is carb cycling, or continue with KETO which im not even sure i am doing it right...i must say i don't like how bloated, and lack of energy i have lately while trying Keto, and im scared of all the proccessed fat consumed, is'nt good for my heart, or my body. But the good news is i lost 5 lbs in 1 week. I think though even though i enjoy the Keto foods in the moment, i miss fruit...and feeling light and i miss my energy and appitite. Even my mood is quite low, but i am not sure maybe that's just because im lost, and feel ashamed of my weight. I just need some support, and feedback please. Thank you so much i appreciate it.

We have very similar weight gain situations- I gained 40 or 50 pounds my freshman year of college, lost it all, then it slowly creeped back up and after I graduated college my weight went all the way back up to what I gained my freshman year. Over the past few years post-graduation, my weight has fluctuated up and down, but never lower than the freshman forty weight until recently.
Is counseling an option for you to help deal with the shame you feel? There's a difference between acknowledging the responsibility you have for your weight and feeling shame to the point of constantly thinking about it. Try reframing self-critical thoughts into concrete changes you can make moving forward-dwelling on mistakes just makes you miserable and depressed and does not lead to action. Also, you don't have to go keto, or do carb cycling, or any other silly fad to lose weight. You won't get the instant gratification that keto can provide, but you'll be happier and you won't get completely derailed when life happens and you have to eat a meal at a work event or go to a wedding or go to a restaurant without published nutrition information. Picking a diet that you can "fail" so easily isn't the best choice when you know that you tend to get blue about your health habits.0 -
Thank you, yes i should probably get some counselling. I have made concrete changes, i don't like the way i look, so i changed my diet, and workout a lot. I feel i need to follow a diet plan, in order to keep structure, and stay on track. If i eat mindlessly without a plan, im not sure how that would work for me. But i know that i do not want to go back to eating unhealthy foods mindlessly. I just feel better knowing im following a regime that leads to weightloss, it's strange but that's what makes me feel better, and at ease.0

If you miss fruit then eat fruit. If you're in an energy (calorie) deficit then you'll lose weight. There's no point in making yourself miserable by missing out on foods you like to eat: especially things like fruit.
Your regime can simply be logging consistently and as accurately as you can1 -

Have you tried meal planning? It provides structure without restricting and you’ll know how many calories you’re eating per day in advance.0 -
Yes, meal planning is a good idea. I generally do meal plan. Thank you for your feedback from before.0
