Am I expecting to much?

I saw a post on here titled -5'3'' ladies whats your goal weight?- Every response on there was between125 and 130. I am 5'3'' and my goal weight is 110-115 which is quite a bit different than most my height. What do you think should I re-evaluate my mind set? My fear is that if I expect to much from myself I won't finish what I start. I am currently 180 so 115-110 is pretty far away.

I think that depends entirely on your body type, you would know best what would be a healthy weight for yourself. The charts say most men my height should weigh 175, my goal weight is 190.

    I am 5'3 as well!

Remember, these are YOUR goals, not others people's goals.

And 110 is still a normal B.M.I. for someone your height. I am actually just under 110 right now.

    I say go for it!
  • My goal weight is 105-110 and I am also 5'3". But before I was pregnant, that was my natural weight since I was very active. Now that I am a stay at home mom with less activity, it's a little harder. I have a head start thought and already lost everything but the last 5-10 lbs which is why I signed up...It's proving a little difficult to stay motivated now that it's been a year:)
If you have the motivation and you keep it healthy, I personally don't believe that you are expecting too much, but I wouldn't expect it to happen overnight either.
If you need some motivation or help staying on track, I'd love to help!
    Good Luck!

I have been 5'3" since I was 12 years old. I was naturally 115 pounds when I was in High school, so it's a fine weight for someone our height. I'm aiming a little higher for myself, but you gotta do what's right for you.

IMO, there comes a point where we should shift our focus away from the scale and into body composition. For myself I'm aiming to get into the healthy BMI range or at least the low overweight range. Once I'm there the goal is reduce body fat. The number on the scale doesn't tell the whole story.

It depends on what you want. I'm 4'11" and have a goal of 115. Getting below that is near impossible because of my muscle mass. If you want muscle tone that may be on the low side. If that's not the look you want it's doable. It also depends on build. My hips and shoulders are broad even when I was thin. That too would make it hard for me to get much below 115.

I say go for it as well. You'll know when you get closer whether your body is ok at 130 or whether you can drop more. Maybe you can set 130 as your goal weight #1 and when you get there re-evaluate. I am 5'3 as well and when I was in high school I worked out constantly and ate super well and I never went below 135. So it just depends on the person.

Like someone said it's your goal. Just don't get to caught up on the scale, For example, you may look perfect at 125lbs. I like have a long-term goal but also then the short-term. The long-term goal can overwhelm us.

You don't need to set your goals to what everyone else your heaight wants. It's YOUR body, and if you think that 110-115 is good goal for you, then it is! for BMI i just check out 5'3" can go as low at 105, and still be at a "healthy" weight. If you have a small frame, I would say go for it, BUT-- I know this may sound stupid, but make sure you double check your height to make sure that is your true height. I thought I was 5'7" for the first 3 months I was on MFP, and I had a goal weight of 120 (lowest I can go for my height), and I got measured at the doctors, and I am actually 5'8.5", so I changed my goal to 125 because that is the lowest I can go for my height.

I've seen those forums you are talking about before for my height, and people have goals of 150 or 145, and that is great for them, but EVERYONE is different! that's what you have to remember! If you wanna go for a lower BMI then what most people are shooting for-- go for it! I have a lower BMI goal than most people my height because I have a small frame. Your goal is fine!

I 100% agree with him. The scale can be very devious and ends up the frustrating most people. Just look at your build and inches is what I say.

Why dont you set your goal at 130 and then revisit the phenomenom once you get there? Everyone is different. Different body types, bone structure, muscle density...........just go with what feels right for YOU!

    Good luck :)

I am 5'3" too! My goal is to get back down to 120. For me, I think anything less is too thin but everyone is different! It won't be impossible for you as long as it's a good weight for your frame size. I would go ahead and set the goal and then reevaluate as you go along. You'll have a better idea once the weight starts coming off.

Absolutely not! I am 5'3 and aiming for 105-110 myself. My frame is very small and I know I can pull that weight off especially if I can tone well! Now I just have to get there.... lol. So do what you think it's right for your body. Everyone has a different concept of what ideal is, and everyone's body is different.

So as long as you're aiming for a healthy weight (bmi-wise) I say go for it. I know a lot of people rely on the "BMI is B/S!!" or "I have big bones!" or "I am super muscular!" or something along the lines, but personally I believe BMI is a good rule of thumb for a lot of people. If you are still unsure, ask your doctor if 110 is a good weight for you. Also, reevaluating your goals as you go is another great way know what you will be happy with :)

    Good luck!
