Ok... kind of personal- but in 2000 I had a tubal ligation.... in 2011, I'm deciding with my husband of 16 years, we want another baby... so we are thinking of a reversal... but one of our worries is that pregnancy will pack on the lbs....

I'm 177 lbs now, 5ft 7 in... about 18 lbs from my goal of 159... I want to get the reversal in October (ish) - met my stop loss this year for insurance, and insurance is supposed to pay for the surgery... so would like to have the reversal surgery in October, but then try to get pregnant the first of January or February.

That should be plenty of time to lose the last 18 lbs... But... while I'm working on the last 18 lbs... what can I do to make my body healthier to make a home for my 'maybe' baby :)

I know I need folic acid, vitamins, etc...

But exercise wise... what can I do to make me healthier... should I be working on specific muscles, more cardio, etc... Currently I do about an hour of biking, sometimes running (But having a hard time because of leg injury) and 10 to 30 minutes of hulahooping daily....

what more?

So, if you're looking for overall fitness, I think the consensus is to do a balanced approach. A mix between cardio and strength training is your best bet combined with a diet that involves eliminated as many processed and pre-prepared foods as possible. Make sure your diet includes fresh fruits and vegetables, and drink plenty of plain fresh delicious water. So you have the cardio down, try doing a simple strength program. There's lots of simple strength programs you can do -- a lot of people do the 30 day shred by Jillian Michaels.

Remember that losing weight is 80-90% diet and 10-20% exercise/fitness. Though, I've found that if I work hard on exercise and fitness in general that I'll want to fill my body with good wholesome food rather than junk. Good luck!

Thanks... I've not really done any strength training... but I think that's a good idea... I do try to eat good, but I do like my icecream...which I'll have to cut out to seriously lose the rest of my weight before pregnancy! :)

    Thanks!

Look up Lindsay Brin & Mom's into Fitness. She has videos for each trimester and several post-natal videos as well. I haven't done her pregnancy videos as I didn't hear about her until I was close to delivering, but I am doing her 60-day slimdown and am loving the results.
