Denny's...not exactly a "healthy" restaurant!

So, I got dragged out for breakfast/lunch to Denny with some friends today, and all I can say is...YIKES!
I did a little research into their menu/nutritional info before going there and discovered some very scary stuff...check out their nutritional info here:
http://www.dennys.ca/content/dishes/nutrition/breakfast_entrees.pdf
http://www.dennys.ca/content/dishes/nutrition/sandwiches_soups_salads.pdf
They allegedly have a "Fit Fare" menu as well (here: http://www.dennys.ca/content/dishes/nutrition/fit_fare.pdf) but I couldn't find it anywhere in the menu.
Anyways, I ended up having the French Toast Platter...which was 3 slices of French Toast, 2 small sausages and 2 pieces of bacon. It ended up being over 1200 calories, 422 mg of cholestrol and almost 2500 mg of sodium!
I guess it's salad for supper for me tonight! And, needless to say, I won't be going back to Denny's anytime soon!

I get suckered into IHOP fairly often - I've been ordering the short stack (2 pancakes), usually the whole grain ones. I skip the bacon and sausage 'cause I'd rather save those calories for peanut butter anyway.
Hey, sometimes it's good to "surprise" your metabolism.0 -
The same thing happened to me on Sunday... I went for a nice breakfast with my honey and it ended up being around that for:
Canadian Back Bacon
Toast w/ butter
Fried potato hashbrowns
1/2 of 1 fried egg.
Coffee, double double
:S. I breakfast but hate the grease/calories that come with it for the most part.0 -
Sorry, It's a hard way to learn how much eating out stacks the calories, quick!!! My husband loves eating out and I don't because it's such a challenge to stick to daily calories. I got a rude awakening real fast. I try to get an idea ahead of time of what I might order too. It helps but sometimes I just want what eveyone else is having. Good luck next time you go out.0

surprisingly any place like the breakfast places...scrambled eggs (they also have egg beaters) and bacon is the healthiest thing or one of the lowest cal things to eat...I love bacon and it really isnt a bad food0

Denny's, like most restaurants, may have "fit fare" on the menu, but you have to look for it on the menu. Unfortunately, they don't always have them listed on the menu in a way which will "jump out" at you either. You have to really look for them. For the breakfasts menus, Denny's lowest calorie fares are still around 400+ calories. If you look to the Sandwich/Salad/Soup menu, all the soups are less than 200 calories and salads without fried foods added, are generally less than 300 calories.
It would be much better if restaurants either publicly posted the nutrition information in the store, or at least provided it to you on request. Some restaurants do post some information directly in their menu, but they are few.
The biggest problem I have seen with the restaurants seems to be sodium content. Even so-called healthy meals that are heavily advertised contain a minimum of 900+ grams of sodium it seems.0 -
The last time I went I just got plain oatmeal ..but my gaw! it was a huge bowl AND it was swimming in butter! yucky!!!0

We visited my son at his University on Saturday and, of course, had to feed him. Apparently, my brain forgot that college students sometimes LIKE Denny's. (Ick!) So we ate there and I am sure I went well over my calories. I had to guesstimate, because they had some new menu about Rock 'n' Roll and I couldn't find it online with the calorie count. Which is ok, because Saturday is done and gone, so I kind of don't wanna know. :laugh:0
