Hi guys, my daughther is currently 15 years old, a few years ago she was fat , overweight and her friends called her names. So she decided to lose weight and ended up using the wrong way. After that she had a major hair loss but she recovered a year ago, she is healthy and eats normally rn and her hair loss stopped too. However, she noticed that the amount of hair she is losing these few days are getting more but we didnt think it was an issue until today. Her hair fell quite an amount after bathing, just like previously when she was dieting. But she ate and lived well. I can't figure out the problem. Can anyone help me ? Anyone who has an idea what is going on, we are really worried

If it isn't her diet is she on any new medications? There are some medications that can cause hair loss.0

Time for a visit to her doctor and some bloodwork to rule out anything scary. It probably isn't, but we can't tell you yes or no on that.14

Hair loss can be down to all sorts of factors including dieting, nutritional deficiencies, stress, allergies.
Best for her to see a doctor to get to the bottom of it.3 -
Whatever set it off this time likely started six weeks ago or so. It takes that long to show up.3

Go to your doctor.4

Is she on medication? I was on a VERY potent drug for six months and I lost a lot of hair. My type of hair loss was called Telogen Effluvium.2

My teenage daughter was losing weight and hair---along with a bunch of other issues---and she ended up having thyroid disease---hyperthyroid, now officially diagnosed with Graves disease. Doctor visit and some blood work and you'll get answers...good luck.3

I saw you say she'd been eating healthy, and that is good. Has she been getting plenty of protein? A prolonged protein deficit announces itself when the body stops using the protein it doesn't get to make strong hair.1

My gut says malnutrition and I would definitely get her to the doctor ASAP. Given her history you likely are dealing with an eating disorder. I really hope I am wrong but I am worried for her. 15 year old girls can be sneaky. She might not be eating as sensibly as you think. A good therapist might be needed.8

You can't get a diagnosis here. Please take her to the Dr. asap.8

Definitely see a reputable doctor; someone who is familiar with symptoms of hormone imbalances and doesn't just look at blood tests.
For example, until the 1970's no blood work was conducted for symptoms / treatment of thyroid, adrenal or other hormones issues; they looked at symptoms.
High cholesterol, low blood pressure, slow pulse meant hypothyroidism,
Bulging eyes, rapid pulse meant hyperthyroidism
Bulge / fat between the shoulder blades meant hypo adrenalism
Course arm hair / baldness meant PCOS, other ovary dysfunction

I've said it a million times and I'll say it again, just because it's often over looked in young kids... but when you take her to the doctor make sure they run a thyroid panel. I was diagnosed with hashimotos disease when I was 10, I'm female also and all my hair fell out, I was completely bald! Hypothyroidism can totally happen in kids. Better safe than sorry, get her checked out please!2

Take her to the doctor to figure out the cause.

You need to go to the doctor... with your 'daughter'.13

On the timing of the precipitating event: I doesn't necessarily take months for hair loss to occur. Hair loss from breast cancer chemotherapy (of the type that near-universally causes it) takes about 3 weeks for almost everyone. That suggests to me that it wouldn't always take months from other causes, either.
I agree with the consensus: See the doctor.5 -
Has she had a growth spurt? So many things can cause hair loss...0

Take her to the doctor. Could be thyroid, low iron, etc. None of us are doctors and we are just making guesses. Please let us know what you find out.1
